Description

American Traveler is hiring an experienced RN for a fast-paced Labor and Delivery unit requiring 2+ years of high-volume L&D experience and NC or compact RN licensure.

Details

  • Work in the Labor and Delivery unit of a high-risk maternity hospital setting
  • Care for obstetrical patients 16 weeks and greater for intrapartum, high-risk antepartum, and postpartum needs, as well as high-risk patients under 16 weeks
  • Unit includes an obstetrical triage area for screening prior to admission and outpatient procedures such as antenatal fetal surveillance, IV hydration, and medication administration
  • Performs scheduled and unscheduled Cesarean births and rescue cervical cerclage procedures
  • Facility averages more than 300 births per month with double labor assignments occurring daily
  • Patient ratios average 2:1, with approximately 20 births per 24 hours, 30-40 admits, 40 visits per day, and 20 rooms
  • Night shift schedule, 3x12-hour shifts from 18:45 to 07:15
  • Every other weekend required, minimum of 6 weekend shifts per 6-week schedule
  • Floating required as needed within the high-risk maternity unit
  • No on-call requirement
  • Uses Epic, Pyxis, and SBAR charting and communication systems
  • Unit orientation totals 24 hours

Requirements

  • Active RN license (NC or Compact) required
  • Current certifications: BLS, AWHONN Intermediate, and NRP (AWHONN Advanced or C-EFM preferred in lieu of AWHONN Intermediate)
  • Minimum 2 years of Labor and Delivery experience required; 3 years preferred
  • Experience in a high-volume L&D setting (300+ births/month) required
  • Epic charting experience required
  • Skilled in circulating for C-sections, sterile vaginal exams, and immediate newborn care
  • Experience with high-risk antepartum care, fetal monitoring interpretation, and obstetrical triage preferred
  • Comfortable managing infant/neonatal arrest and interpreting dysrhythmias

Additional Information

  • Provide comprehensive nursing care across labor, delivery, antepartum, and postpartum stages in a fast-paced, high-acuity environment
  • Perform triage, pain management, IV therapy, and antepartum procedures such as oxytocin challenge tests
  • Follow isolation precautions and PPE protocols as needed
  • Scrubs (blue) are provided
  • First-time travelers will be considered if they have experience in a large, high-volume similar setting
  • Previous Novant Health or New Hanover PERM/PRN/EP employees must wait 12 months before applying and disclose prior employment details for facility approval
  • Local candidates within 50 miles are accepted at a lower rate
  • Travel pairs are allowed if placed on different units and disclosed at submission
  • Up to 7 days of RTO can be auto-approved if not falling on a holiday; no RTO permitted during the first week of assignment
  • Must work 2 of the 3 major holidays
  • Contract lengths from 13 to 26 weeks are accepted
