Description

American Traveler is hiring an experienced Labor & Delivery RN for a fast-paced, high-volume unit requiring 2+ years of L&D experience and current AWHONN/NRP certifications.

Details

• High-risk maternity unit providing intrapartum, high-risk antepartum, and postpartum care for patients 16+ weeks (and under 16 weeks high-risk cases)
• Obstetrical triage unit performs antenatal fetal surveillance, IV hydration, medication administration, scheduled/unscheduled C-sections, and rescue cervical cerclage
• Facility averages over 300 births per month with roughly 20 births per 24 hours, 30-40 admits, 40 visits/day, and 20 rooms
• 2:1 patient ratio with double labor assignments occurring daily
• Night shift, 3x12-hour schedule (18:45-07:15)
• Every other weekend required, minimum 6 weekend shifts per 6-week schedule
• Float required as needed to Special Maternity Care high-risk OB unit
• No on-call requirement
• Uses Epic, Pyxis, and SBAR communication

Requirements

• Active NC or Compact RN license
• Minimum 2 years of L&D experience required (3 years preferred)
• Experience in a large, high-volume L&D setting required (>300 births/month)
• BLS, NRP, and AWHONN Intermediate certification required (AWHONN Advanced and C-EFM accepted in lieu of AWHONN preferred)
• Circulate for C-section experience strongly preferred
• Sterile vaginal exam competency and immediate newborn care skills required
• Epic charting experience required
• Skilled in labor and delivery management, cardiac monitoring, dysrhythmia interpretation, and infant/neonatal arrest response
• Experience with antepartum care, OCT, obstetrical triage, pain management, and IV therapy/phlebotomy

Additional Information

• Unit is fast-paced and high-acuity, busier than typically expected, making shorter contracts unrealistic due to workload
• First-time travelers considered if they have experience in a similarly large, high-volume setting
• Contracts of 20+ weeks accepted through February 27, 2027 to support the unit through the holidays
• Scrubs (blue) provided by facility
• Unit orientation is 24 hours, with additional online pre-start modules (8-10 hours) required pre-start and annually
• Must work 2 of the 3 major holidays
• RTO up to 7 days can be auto-approved (not on holidays); no RTO allowed during the first week of assignment; no additional RTO after signing
• Local candidates within 50 miles accepted at a lower rate
• Former Novant/New Hanover PERM/PRN/EP employees must wait 12 months before reapplying and disclose prior employment details
• Travel pairs allowed if placed on different units with separate transportation
