Labor and Delivery Registered Nurse (RN)

About the Position

We are seeking a dedicated Labor and Delivery Registered Nurse (RN) to play a critical role in our Level III Trauma Center. This position involves providing comprehensive care to expectant mothers and their newborns. The selected candidate will work in a dynamic environment, providing high-quality nursing care during labor, delivery, and the postpartum period.

Unit Information

• Beds: 9 Labor and Delivery Rooms, 2 OB Operating Rooms, 2 OB PACU, 11 Level II NICU, 4 Pediatric Beds, 20 Mother/Baby Units, 18 bed START unit for Perinatal Addiction, 3 OB Emergency Department Beds (20 weeks and above)
• Monthly Deliveries: 175-200
• Patient Ratios: 1:1 for active labor and 1:2 for non-active labor

Key Responsibilities

• Provide exceptional care during labor and delivery, including cervical exams and fetal monitoring
• Administer medication and manage care for patients with substance abuse issues
• Conduct antepartum care for patients requiring continued fetal monitoring
• Transition stable maternal and neonatal patients to the Mother/Baby unit, including couplet care
• Familiarity with the HUGS security system and proficient in medication dispensing via Pyxis

Qualifications

• Minimum 1 year of experience in Labor and Delivery
• Current BLS, NRP, and fetal monitoring certifications
• Strong clinical skills in labor management, IV administration, and technology utilization
• Experience in post-partum care, including breastfeeding support
• Ability to float between Labor & Delivery and Mother/Baby as needed, ensuring competence in assigned areas

Support and Resources

• No CNAs on unit; Surgery Techs available M-F from 0600 to 1500
• Access to phlebotomy and respiratory therapy 24/7
• Continuous support from hospitalists, OB groups, laborists, and midwives

Technology and Equipment

• Electronic Medical Records: EPIC Stork, GE Centricity
• IV Pumps: Alaris
• Medication Dispensing: Pyxis

Scheduling

• Weekend rotation: every other weekend
• Holiday Expectations: one major holiday and one minor holiday
• Shift Times: 0700-1900 or 1900-0700
• Scheduling Cycle: 3-week increments
