Description

American Traveler is hiring an experienced RN for a fast-paced Labor & Delivery unit requiring 2+ years of experience in a high-volume (>300 births/month) setting and NC or compact RN licensure.

Details

• Fast-paced, high-acuity Labor and Delivery/Birthing Care Unit
• Cares for obstetrical patients 16 weeks gestation and greater for intrapartum, high-risk antepartum, and postpartum care, as well as select high-risk patients under 16 weeks
• Includes an obstetrical triage area for antenatal fetal surveillance, IV hydration, and medication administration
• Performs scheduled and unscheduled Cesarean births and rescue cervical cerclage procedures
• Ratios average 2:1 with approximately 20 births per 24 hours, 30-40 admissions, 40 visits/day, and 20 rooms
• Double labor assignments occur daily
• Night shift, 3x12-hour schedule from 18:45-07:15
• Every other weekend required, minimum 6 weekend shifts per 6-week schedule
• No on-call requirement
• Floating required as needed to the high-risk OB unit
• Uses Epic, Pyxis, and SBAR charting/communication systems

Requirements

• Active NC or compact RN license required (pending license accepted at submission)
• Minimum 2 years of Labor & Delivery experience required; 3 years preferred
• Experience in a large, high-volume facility with more than 300 births per month required
• BLS, AWHONN Intermediate, and NRP certifications required; AWHONN Advanced preferred; C-EFM accepted in lieu of AWHONN
• Circulate for C-section experience strongly preferred
• Skilled in sterile vaginal exams and immediate newborn care
• Competent in cardiac monitoring, dysrhythmia interpretation, and neonatal/infant arrest response
• Experience with obstetrical triage, antepartum care, and OCT (oxytocin challenge tests)
• Epic charting experience required

Additional Information

• Responsibilities include labor and delivery management, circulating for C-sections, obstetrical triage, and antepartum/postpartum care
• Unit orientation is approximately 24 hours, with weekly onboarding schedule
• Scrubs (blue) are provided
• Must complete pre-start and annual online learning modules (approximately 8-10 hours for acute care roles)
• First-time travelers will be considered if they have experience in a similarly large, high-volume facility
• Former Novant Health or New Hanover PERM/PRN/EP employees must wait 12 months before applying and disclose prior employment details for facility approval
• Current travel per diem clinicians must choose between per diem or travel status, not both
• RTO up to 7 days can be auto-approved if it does not fall on a holiday; no RTO permitted during the first week of assignment or after signing
• Must work 2 of 3 major holidays
• Local candidates within 50 miles accepted at a lower pay rate
• Travel pairs are allowed if placed on different units with separate schedules and transportation
