Description

American Traveler is hiring an experienced RN for a fast-paced Labor and Delivery unit requiring 2+ years of experience in a high-volume facility with 300+ births per month.

Details

• Work in a high-risk maternity Labor and Delivery unit within a hospital setting
• Care for obstetrical patients 16 weeks and greater for intrapartum, high-risk antepartum, and postpartum needs, as well as high-risk patients under 16 weeks
• Unit includes an obstetrical triage area for screening, antenatal fetal surveillance, IV hydration, and medication administration
• Scheduled and unscheduled Cesarean births and rescue cervical cerclage procedures performed
• Patient ratio of 2:1 with an average of 20 births per 24 hours, 30-40 admits, 40 visits per day, and 20 rooms
• Double labor assignments occur daily on this unit
• 12-hour night shifts from 18:45 to 07:15
• Every other weekend required, minimum of 6 weekend shifts per 6-week schedule
• No call requirements
• Floating required as needed within the Special Maternity Care high-risk OB unit
• Uses PYXIS, EPIC, and SBAR systems

Requirements

• Active NC or Compact RN license required (pending license/certs acceptable at submission)
• Minimum 2 years of experience required, 3 years preferred
• Experience in a large or high-volume similar setting required (300+ births per month)
• Certifications required: BLS, AWHONN Intermediate, NRP (AWHONN Advanced or C-EFM in lieu of AWHONN preferred)
• Skills required: circulating, sterile vaginal exams, and competency in immediate newborn care
• Circulate to OR experience strongly preferred
• Epic charting experience required
• First-time travelers accepted if they have experience in a large/high-volume similar setting

Additional Information

• Extremely fast-paced, high-acuity unit that may be challenging for less experienced nurses
• 48-hour contracts may not be realistic given the unit's high patient volume
• Provide labor and delivery management, antepartum care and procedures, and triage of obstetrical patients
• Perform cardiac monitoring, emergency care, and interpretation of dysrhythmias including infant/neonatal arrest response
• Conduct pain assessment and management, isolation precautions/PPE, and oxytocin challenge tests (OCT)
• 24 hours of unit orientation provided
• Scrubs provided (blue)
• Must work 2 of 3 major holidays
• RTO of 7 days or less can be auto-approved if it does not fall on a holiday; no RTO allowed during the first week of assignment; all RTO must be pre-approved and cannot be requested after signing
• Local candidates within 50 miles accepted at a lower rate
• Former Novant Health or New Hanover PERM/PRN/EP employees must wait 12 months before applying, with facility approval required
• Current travel per diem clinicians must choose between travel or per diem status, not both
• Travel pairs allowed if on different units and disclosed at submission
• Contracts accepted from 13+ weeks up to a hard stop of February 27, 2027
