Description
American Traveler is hiring an experienced Labor & Delivery RN with a minimum of 2 years of experience and required certifications in BLS, ACLS, NRP, and FHM for a short-term acute care hospital setting.
Details
- Labor and Delivery unit within a short-term acute care hospital
- Patient population includes labor, induction, scheduled and unscheduled C-sections, C-section with salpingectomy, SROM, PPROM, hypertension, preeclampsia, antepartum, and triage patients
- Follows AWHONN staffing guidelines with typical ratios of 1:1 for active labor, 1:2 for non-active labor, and 1:3 for triage or antepartum patients
- Day shift schedule with 3x12-hour shifts from 6:00 AM to 6:30 PM
- Uses Cerner EMR, experience required
- Utilizes CADD epidural pumps, Alaris IV pumps, Phillips wired and wireless monitoring, Periwatch, Hillrom labor beds, Draeger Radiant warmers, vein light, and v-scan
- Floating required to MCH units within the hospital or nearby affiliate hospitals
Requirements
- Active IN or Compact RN license required in hand prior to start
- Minimum 2 years of Labor and Delivery experience required
- Required certifications: BLS, ACLS, NRP, and FHM
- Cerner charting experience required
- Community hospital experience preferred
- Previous charge experience preferred
- Skills required include IV therapy, administration of blood and blood products, drawing venous blood, starting and maintaining IVs, use of infusion pumps, and cardiac monitoring
- Labor and delivery skills required including assisting with vaginal delivery, circulating for C-sections, hemorrhage/shock management, and sterile vaginal exams
- Medication administration experience with Pitocin, antihypertensives, and antiseizure medications required
- Neonatal care skills required including APGAR scoring, ID/security banding, and radiant warmer/thermoregulation use
- Antepartum care skills required including NST, reflex checks, and use of external fetal heart monitoring
- Experience caring for patients with pre-eclampsia/eclampsia, premature rupture of membranes, and preterm labor required
- Postpartum care skills required including fundus/lochia/perineum care and foley catheter management
- Pain management experience required including epidural anesthesia and opioid administration
- Fetal monitoring skills required including recognition of abnormal fetal heart rate patterns and use of external fetal monitoring
- Nursing degree must be from a university accredited by ACEN or CCNE at time of graduation
- Two supervisor references required for consideration
- SSN and DOB required for consideration
Additional Information
- Responsibilities include labor and delivery management, neonatal care in the delivery room, newborn care, and postpartum care
- First-time travelers are welcome to apply
- Candidates must work 2 of 3 major holidays
- Up to 5 days of non-holiday RTO can be auto-approved; additional time off requires facility approval
- Local candidates are not accepted for this position
- Any prior perm or PRN employee of the health system must have been away for at least 12 months before applying as a traveler
- Current or past travelers with 12 months of accrued travel employment within the health system must take a designated break to reset eligibility, with out-of-state residents requiring a 3-month break and in-state residents requiring a 6-month break
