Description

American Traveler is seeking an experienced RN for a high-risk Labor & Delivery position in Alaska, requiring an active AK RN license and AWHONN certifications for a 13-week night shift contract.

Details

  • High-risk Labor & Delivery unit in a Magnet-designated, Level II Trauma acute care hospital recognized as a USNWR Best Hospital in Alaska
  • Unit includes 10 OB Triage rooms, 10 LDR rooms, 3 OR suites, and 4 PACU rooms
  • Average of 7 deliveries per day with up to 14 patients including inductions and high-risk antepartum cases
  • OB Triage averages 4–5 third trimester testing patients plus an influx of triage patients daily
  • Patient populations include antepartum, high-risk antepartum, labor & delivery, mother/baby, and postpartum
  • 13-week contract, Night Shift (3x12), 19:00–07:30
  • Schedule is most likely straight nights; if coverage is needed for both nights and days, schedule flips every 4 weeks
  • Every other weekend required
  • No on-call required
  • Floating to like units may be required based on facility needs, including affiliate hospitals within the state
  • Charting system: Epic (required)
  • Scrubs are provided by the facility
  • Free parking on-site

Requirements

  • Active Alaska (AK) RN license required; pending license accepted for consideration but must be in hand prior to offer
  • Current certifications required: BLS, ACLS, AWHONN Intermediate, AWHONN Advanced, NRP
  • Minimum 1 year of L&D experience required
  • Epic EMR experience required
  • Charge nurse experience preferred; facility is willing to train for charge role
  • Teaching hospital experience preferred
  • Proficiency in L&D skills including: labor and delivery management, circulating and recovering C-sections, sterile vaginal exams, amnioinfusion, fetal monitoring (external and internal), and IUPC placement
  • Experience with high-risk medications including Pitocin, Magnesium Sulfate, antihypertensives, insulin drips, and Terbutaline
  • Experience with neonatal resuscitation, APGAR scoring, and newborn assessment
  • Experience in postpartum care including hemorrhage management, couplet care, and pregnancy-induced hypertension
  • 2 supervisory references covering at least 1 year of employment within the last 3 years in a comparable specialty required for consideration
  • Hepatitis B vaccination required; titers and declinations are not accepted by this facility
  • Candidate's permanent address must be at least 50 miles from the facility

  • RTO is evaluated on an individual basis and must be disclosed at time of consideration
  • Former permanent staff must be separated from the facility system for a minimum of 3 months before returning as a traveler
  • Travelers are limited to a maximum of 1 calendar year at the same facility before requiring a minimum 6-month break prior to returning for another assignment
  • Travelers who refuse floating assignments may be subject to termination of their assignment
  • Copy of all required certifications must be provided for consideration
