Description

American Traveler is hiring an experienced RN for a Labor & Delivery position requiring high-risk antepartum experience and a VA or compact RN license.

Details

• 24-bed Labor and Delivery unit providing care to low and high risk pregnant patients from antepartum through delivery
• Serves as referring center for high risk pregnancies across Southwest VA, receiving patients from an approximate 150-mile radius
• Accepts pregnant patients over 20 weeks gestational age
• Unit includes a 3-bed triage area, 2 ORs, and 2 post-anesthesia beds
• Average of 250 deliveries and 350 triage patients per month
• Staffing ratios include 1:1-2 laboring patients, 1:3-4 antepartum patients, 1:3 triage patients, 2:1 OBOR patients, and 1:1-2 OB PACU patients
• Unit staffed by Clinical Team Leaders, Registered Nurses, and Nursing Assistants
• Day shift schedule, 3x12 hours (6:45am-7:15pm), with 4x12 available by request
• Weekend requirement of every-other-weekend or 6 weekend shifts within a 6-week schedule block
• On-call required, variable with a maximum of 24 hours per 6-week schedule block
• Must work one holiday per 13-week contract (two holidays required during winter holiday period)
• Facility may call off up to 1 shift per 2 weeks

Requirements

• Active VA State or Compact RN license required (pending license accepted only for candidates holding a single-state license from a non-compact state)
• BLS certification required
• Minimum 2 years of relevant nursing experience required
• Experience with any electronic charting system required
• Experience in High Risk Antepartum and Labor/Delivery required
• Experience with sterile speculum exams, NST, reflex/edema assessments, sterile vaginal exams, and OB triage required
• Experience with EFM (external fetal monitoring), IFM (internal fetal monitoring), and IUPC placement/calibration required
• Experience recognizing and treating abnormal fetal heart rate patterns required
• Experience administering antihypertensives, insulin drips, Magnesium Sulfate therapy, Pitocin, Prostaglandins, and Terbutaline required
• Competency in antepartum, intrapartum, and OBOR (scrubbing and/or circulating) preferred

Additional Information

• Provide direct patient care across antepartum, labor, delivery, and OBOR settings
• First-time travelers are welcome to apply
• Previous employees (per diem or permanent) must have a break of at least one year before returning as a traveler
• Travelers who worked 365 days on assignment are not eligible to return, regardless of separation period, with exceptions reviewed case-by-case
• All RTO, block, and special scheduling requests must be submitted upfront
• Local candidates within 100 miles of the facility are not accepted, with limited exceptions for inpatient RNs living 50-99.9 miles away eligible for a single 13-week assignment with no extension
