Description

American Traveler is hiring a Registered Nurse for a Labor and Delivery unit requiring high-risk antepartum and intrapartum experience and an active VA or compact RN license.

Details

• 24-bed Labor and Delivery unit providing care for low and high-risk pregnant patients from antepartum through delivery
• Referral center for high-risk pregnancies across Southwest Virginia, serving patients within an approximate 150-mile radius
• Accepts pregnant patients over 20 weeks gestation
• Unit includes a 3-bed triage area, 2 ORs, and 2 post-anesthesia beds
• Average of 250 deliveries and 350 triage patients per month
• Staffing ratios include 1:1-2 laboring patients, 1:3-4 antepartum patients, 1:3 triage patients, 2:1 OBOR patients, and 1:1-2 OB PACU patients
• Night shift schedule, 3x12s with 4x12 available by request, 6:45pm-7:15am
• Weekend requirement of every other weekend or 6 weekend shifts per 6-week schedule block
• Variable on-call requirement up to a maximum of 24 hours per 6-week schedule block
• Skill mix includes Clinical Team Leaders, Registered Nurses, and Nursing Assistants

Requirements

• Active VA or Compact RN license required; single-state license accepted only for candidates from non-compact states
• BLS certification required
• 2+ years of relevant nursing experience with 1:2 patient ratio experience
• Experience with any electronic charting system required
• Experience in high-risk antepartum and labor/delivery care required
• Skilled in sterile speculum exams, NST, reflex checks, sterile vaginal exams, and obstetrical triage
• Experience with external and internal fetal monitoring and IUPC placement/calibration
• Experience recognizing and treating abnormal fetal heart rate patterns
• Medication administration experience with antihypertensives, insulin drips, magnesium sulfate, pitocin, prostaglandins, and terbutaline
• Two professional references required for consideration

Additional Information

• Provide direct patient care across antepartum, intrapartum, and OBOR settings, including scrubbing or circulating competencies
• Assist with high-risk and vaginal deliveries, cesarean sections, and postpartum care including hemorrhage and pregnancy-induced hypertension
• Support pain management including epidural anesthesia and PCA use
• Must work at least one holiday per 13-week contract, with two holidays required during winter holiday periods (Thanksgiving, Christmas/Christmas Eve, NYE/New Year's Day)
• First-time travelers are welcome to apply
• Local candidates within 100 miles of the facility are not accepted
• Travelers residing 50-99.9 miles from the facility may be considered for one 13-week assignment with no extension eligibility
• Travelers residing less than 50 miles from the facility may be considered for one 13-week assignment at a lower rate with no extension eligibility
• Previous employees must have a break of at least one year before returning as a traveler
• Travelers who have worked 365 days at the facility are not eligible to return, regardless of separation period, with exceptions reviewed case-by-case
