Labor and Delivery Registered Nurse (RN)

General Information

We are seeking a compassionate and skilled Labor and Delivery Registered Nurse (RN) to join our dynamic team. Our facility has a total of 10 Labor & Delivery beds, 4 OB Emergency Department triage beds, and 4 Antepartum rooms. As a pivotal member of our healthcare team, you will provide high-quality care to a diverse group of pregnant patients, contributing to their health and wellness during labor and delivery.

Patient Population

Our unit caters to a wide range of patients, including:

• High-risk pregnancies
• Low-intervention laboring patients
• Antepartum care
• OB triage/ED treatment
• Postpartum care

Patient Ratios

• Antepartum: 1:3
• Inactive Labor: 1:2
• Active Labor: 1:1
• Postpartum/Couplet Care: 1:3 couplets

Qualifications

To be considered for this position, candidates must meet the following requirements:

• Registered Nurse (RN) licensed in South Dakota
• Current certifications in BLS and NRP are required
• ACLS certification and additional credentials in inpatient obstetrics or electronic fetal monitoring are preferred
• Completion of a nursing education program accredited by a board of nursing

Experience

Candidates with 1-2 years of Labor and Delivery experience will be considered, preferably in a Level 3 or higher NICU environment. First-time travelers are also welcome to apply.

Essential Skills

The ideal candidate must possess the following skills:

• Experience with EPIC charting system
• Competency in managing high acuity labor patients, including preeclampsia and preterm labor
• Proficiency in IV starts, cervical checks, phlebotomy, and administering medications such as magnesium sulfate and insulin
• Ability to assist in C-sections and provide post-operative care
• Comfort in caring for normal newborn nursery patients (Level I care) and, ideally, lower acuity NICU patients (Level II care)

Our unit provides a supportive environment with the following resources available:

• Unit Secretary
• Scrub Tech support for L&D RNs
• Charge Nurse oversight
• Access to Respiratory Therapy and OB Physician team 24/7
• Anesthesia/CRNA services available

Orientation and Onboarding

New hires will undergo an orientation program, including 4 days of training with a preceptor (3 days in L&D and 1 day in Postpartum).

Scheduling

This position involves 12-hour shifts that may include varying schedules, with an expectation to work nights and days throughout the contract. Weekend rotation is required every other weekend, and holiday availability may be necessary. Any time-off requests must receive manager approval.
