Labor and Delivery Registered Nurse (RN)

Overview

We are seeking an experienced Labor and Delivery Registered Nurse (RN) to join our dynamic team in the Family Birthing Center. This role requires a dedicated professional who is able to provide high-quality nursing care in a high-risk environment while working collaboratively with other healthcare providers.

Unit Information

• Unit Type: Labor and Delivery (L&D)
• Number of L&D Beds: 10
• Operating Room Suites for C-Sections: 2
• Triage Beds: 6 (3 OB-ED and 3 antepartum testing)
• Postpartum Beds: 12
• Monthly Births: Approximately 140-165
• Nurse Ratios: 1:3-4 couplets, 1:1 to 1:2 for labor, 1:1-3 for antepartum patients

Responsibilities

• Provide comprehensive nursing care during labor, delivery, and the postpartum period.
• Circulate during cesarean sections and be proficient in all aspects of Labor, Delivery, Recovery, and Postpartum (LDRP).
• Administer and titrate intravenous medications, specifically Pitocin.
• Ensure adherence to AWHONN guidelines for patient care and ratios.
• Maintain necessary documentation and participate in care planning.
• Float as needed to other departments, demonstrating flexibility and collaboration.

Qualifications

• Minimum of 2 years of experience in Labor and Delivery.
• Required Certifications: BLS, ACLS, NRP, and AWHONN-Advanced. STABLE certification preferred.
• Ability to read and interpret EKG strips.
• Experience with patient diagnoses including preterm labor, bleeding, inductions, cesarean sections, and hypertension.

Work Environment

This position is primarily based in a high-risk unit with couplet care. RNs are expected to perform all necessary functions from start to finish and must be able to manage complex patient care scenarios.

Schedule

Shifts will include 12-hour day shifts with weekend and holiday rotation. Flexibility to work extra shifts and respond to emergency demands is important.

Candidates must be willing to work during major holidays and will have the opportunity to request time off, although it is not guaranteed.

Additional Information

• On-site OB hospitalists available 24/7, neonatologists on call, and anesthesia in-house around the clock.
• Equipment includes GE Corometric monitors for fetal surveillance. No vent support is available directly on the unit.
• Scrubs will be provided for staff.
