Description

American Traveler is seeking an RN for a Labor & Delivery position requiring CA licensure, 2+ years of experience, and AWHONN advanced fetal monitoring certification.

Details

• Acute care setting within a Labor and Delivery unit handling L&D, recovery, postpartum, and women's health patients
• High-risk OB unit with transfer out for major maternal or fetal complications
• 18 LDRP rooms, 6 triage spaces, 8 shared med-surg beds for women's care overflow, and 2 OR rooms with nurse self-circulating
• Approximately 250 births per month with level 2 NICU in house
• Ratios follow CA state guidelines: 4:1 couplets, 3:1 stable antepartum, 2:1 L&D, 1:1 for deliveries with a second NRP nurse present
• Uses Cerner EMR, Fetal Link, and HUGS infant security system
• Night shift schedule with every other weekend and 4 weekend shifts required per scheduling period
• 12-hour shifts (7a/7p)
• All nurses float across L&D, postpartum, C-section, and women's health areas rather than a single specialty
• First to float
• May be placed on standby with a 30-minute call-in response time when needed
• 24/7 in-house OB, anesthesia, RT, and pharmacy coverage

Requirements

• Active CA RN license required
• Minimum 2 years of experience required
• Required certifications: BLS, ACLS, NRP, and AWHONN Advanced Fetal Monitoring
• Must be able to start own IVs
• Cerner charting experience preferred
• Driver's license copy required for consideration
• Two professional references required: one supervisor from within the last 12 months and one peer or supervisor from within the last 3 years, including employment dates and rehire eligibility

Additional Information

• Provide nursing care across L&D, antepartum, postpartum, and women's health, including newborn recovery
• NICU charge nurse and RT attend all high-risk deliveries
• Unit maintains strong perinatal safety initiatives, including Pitocin checklists, maternal mental health screenings, and pre-eclampsia protocols
• No elective deliveries performed before 39 weeks
• Unit performs 100% chart audits and emphasizes evidence-based practice
• Baby-friendly hospital promoting immediate skin-to-skin contact and early breastfeeding initiation
• On-site lactation store available
• Floor-specific orientation includes 3 baseline shifts, GNOSIS online OB training, and training with perinatal safety specialists
• Must work one major and one minor holiday
• L&D scrubs provided, but navy blue scrubs required for arrival and departure from the unit
• Only permanent staff typically perform triage duties
