Labor and Delivery Registered Nurse (RN)

Position Overview

A challenging and rewarding opportunity is available for a Labor and Delivery Registered Nurse (RN) to provide high-quality patient care in a dynamic and fast-paced environment. This position offers a chance to work with a diverse population and assist with various patient needs during labor, delivery, and postpartum recovery.

Facility Information

Located in Tacoma, WA, this facility is a Level II Trauma Center with a Level IV NICU. The unit includes:

• 34 Labor and Delivery Beds
• 15 Labor Rooms
• 12 Antepartum Rooms
• 4 OB Emergency Department Rooms
• 3 Operating Rooms
• 18 Postpartum Beds

Patient Population

The unit cares for patients with various conditions including:

• High acuity cases such as Hypertension and preterm labor
• C-Sections with an approximate 33% C-section rate
• Administration of Magnesium and Insulin drips
• Multiple births and post-partum hemorrhage

Staffing and Support

The unit is supported by:

• CNA support for transports, restocking, and assisting in the OR
• Licensed Practical Nurses (LPN) for instrument care
• Phlebotomy support
• Resource RNs available based on staffing needs
• 24/7 Respiratory Therapists for high-risk deliveries

Position Responsibilities

• Provide direct nursing care to labor and delivery patients with high acuity needs.
• Evaluate patient conditions and assist with labor management, circulating in the OR, and performing cervical checks.
• Interpret fetal monitoring strips and manage patient rounds.
• Transition patients post vaginal and C-section deliveries, ensuring full recovery.
• Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams, including charge nurses and OB ED staff.

Qualifications

Required certifications include:

• BLS (Basic Life Support)
• NRP (Neonatal Resuscitation Program)
• Intermediate FHM (Fetal Heart Monitoring) by AWHONN

Experience requirements:

• Minimum of 2 years of nursing experience with high acuity in labor management.
• Ability to triage patients and manage high-risk OB situations.
• Charge Nurse experience preferred for leadership positions.

Schedule and Orientation

This position offers:

• Weekends every other week, subject to change based on staffing needs.
• Orientation comprised of facility and unit training, including pairing with a charge nurse for hands-on experience.
• Scheduling made in six-week increments.
