Take your next travel nursing assignment to Spokane, Washington, and join a high-acuity Labor & Delivery team in a large teaching hospital and Level II Trauma environment.

This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced L&D RN who is confident caring for high-risk laboring patients, antepartum patients and complex maternal conditions. Travel experience is not required for qualified L&D nurses who can function independently.

The unit manages approximately 3,600 deliveries annually, providing exposure to a wide range of obstetric cases and maternal-fetal medicine patients.

High-Risk L&D Experience

The ideal candidate will have strong experience with:

Key L&D Responsibilities

• Triage obstetrical patients
• Perform sterile vaginal examinations
• Assess effacement, dilation, station and fetal presentation
• Monitor fetal heart rate using external and internal monitoring
• Recognize and respond to abnormal fetal heart rate patterns
• Manage IUPC placement and calibration
• Assist with spiral electrode placement
• Perform NSTs and OCTs
• Initiate and maintain IV access
• Administer IV medications and blood products
• Manage Pitocin/oxytocin, magnesium sulfate, insulin drips and other high-risk medications
• Administer antihypertensives, anticoagulants, prostaglandins and terbutaline
• Assist with high-risk vaginal deliveries
• Circulate and scrub for C-sections
• Recover post-C-section patients
• Assist with forceps and vacuum-assisted deliveries
• Manage amnioinfusion
• Respond to hemorrhage and shock
• Assist with maternal emergencies and rapid response situations

Newborn & Neonatal Care

• Perform newborn assessments
• Obtain and document APGAR scores
• Assist with neonatal resuscitation
• Respond to infant/neonatal emergencies
• Provide newborn thermoregulation
• Manage radiant warmers
• Perform cord care
• Support newborn identification and security procedures
• Monitor and manage newborn hypoglycemia
• Provide parent education and discharge teaching
• Support breastfeeding and lactation needs
• Provide care for newborns following vaginal and cesarean deliveries

Postpartum & Mother-Baby Care

• Perform postpartum assessments
• Monitor fundus, lochia and perineum
• Assess and care for C-section incisions
• Manage Foley catheters
• Perform wound assessments and care
• Support breastfeeding and use of breast pumps
• Manage postpartum hemorrhage
• Care for patients with pregnancy-induced hypertension
• Provide couplet care
• Care for patients following vaginal and cesarean delivery
• Support patients with multiple births and complex postpartum needs

Required Qualifications

• Minimum 2 years of L&D RN experience
• Strong recent high-risk Labor & Delivery experience
• Ability to function independently

• Experience with pre-eclampsia, diabetes, multiples and VBAC/TOLAC
• Epic experience required
• BLS required
• ACLS required
• NRP required
• AWHONN Intermediate required
• Fetal Heart Monitoring (FHM) required

Schedule & Additional Details

• Night shift: 7:00 PM–7:00 AM
• 4×12-hour shifts
• Patient ratio approximately 1:2 in Labor
• Antepartum ratio approximately 1:3
• Weekend coverage required
• No on-call requirement
• Floating may be required to Mother/Baby or other appropriate areas
• Block scheduling is not guaranteed
• Up to 48 hours/week may be approved
