Job Summary:
The Labor and Delivery (L&D) Nurse is based in Anchorage, Alaska, at a high-volume magnet-designated facility. This position involves providing expert patient care within the high-risk antepartum unit, supporting multiple obstetric and neonatal procedures, and collaborating with interdisciplinary teams. The role requires adaptability to a night shift schedule, ensuring safe and effective care for mothers and newborns during high-acuity deliveries and related procedures.
Job Details:
- Schedule: Night shifts, 12 hours per shift, with a minimum of 36 hours per week.
- Required Qualifications: Valid Alaska Registered Nurse (RN) license in hand, BLS, ACLS, AWHONN Intermediate and Advanced certifications. Minimum of 1 year of experience in obstetric nursing preferred. First-time travelers are accepted.
- Preferred Qualifications: Charge nurse experience or willingness to train as charge nurse.
- On-call: Not required.
- Weekend Requirement: Every other weekend.
- Float: May float within scope to similar units if needed.
- Open to accommodating block schedule: No.
- Travel Experience Required: No prior travel experience necessary.
- Unit Information: High-risk antepartum OB unit with 10 triage rooms, 10 LDR rooms, 3 operating suites, and 4 PACU rooms. Manages an average of 7 deliveries daily, with peaks up to 14, including inductions and high-risk cases. Handles third trimester testing and triage patients daily.
- Facility Details: Acute hospital with magnet designation, Level II trauma status, and approximately 407 beds. Parking is free, and charting is performed using Epic.
- Additional Responsibilities: Assisting with cesarean sections, high-risk deliveries, sterile speculum exams, fetal monitoring, postpartum care, neonatal resuscitation, and other obstetric protocols.
- Special Equipment and Procedures: Cervical cerclage, hysterectomy, D&C, epidural anesthesia, and use of internal/external fetal monitoring.
- Shift & Scheduling: Flexible scheduling with 35 hours of orientation. Candidates must work two major holidays: Thanksgiving, Christmas, or New Year.
- Requirements & Additional Info: Must have license in hand for auto-offer; pending licenses accepted but must be in possession at the time of offer. Candidates must be willing to work the specified schedule and accommodate the outlined policies for references, housing, and module completion.
