Description

American Traveler is seeking a Labor & Delivery RN for a 12-hour night shift position in a high-acuity Birth Center, requiring at least 2 years of L&D experience and EPIC proficiency.

Details

• Work in the Birth Center of a Level II Trauma Center hospital with a Level IV NICU
• Unit includes 34 L&D beds (15 labor rooms, 12 antepartum, 4 OB ED, 3 OR) and 18 postpartum beds
• High acuity patient population including hypertension, Mg administration, C-sections (33% rate), preterm labor, insulin drips, vaginal deliveries, epidurals, inductions, antepartum complications, PROM, multiple births, and postpartum hemorrhage
• Handles up to 300 deliveries per month
• Patient ratios follow AWHONN guidelines: 1:1 active labor, 1:2 non-active labor, and 1:2-3 antepartum depending on acuity
• 12-hour night shifts totaling 36 hours per week
• Weekend rotation every other weekend, subject to variation based on need
• No mandatory on-call requirements, though open shifts may be available to pick up
• Floating required to antepartum (within L&D) and occasionally postpartum (4th floor), with additional assignments within scope and experience

Requirements

• Active WA or compact RN license required
• Current BLS, NRP, and Intermediate Fetal Heart Monitoring (AWHONN) certifications required
• Minimum 2 years of Labor & Delivery experience required, with previous travel experience preferred and 5+ years strongly preferred
• EPIC EMR experience required
• Demonstrated skills in high-acuity labor management, OB patient triage, OR circulating, cervical checks, and fetal monitoring strip interpretation
• Ability to serve as a second set of hands to receive and recover normal newborns as needed

Additional Information

• Provide comprehensive labor and delivery nursing care including triage, delivery support, and newborn recovery assistance
• Work alongside a support team including CNAs, LPN scrub techs (NRP certified), HUC/receptionist staff, resource RNs, and scheduled break nurses
• Facility offers 24/7 respiratory therapy and laborist coverage, with residents, fellows, and additional physicians/midwives on site
• Orientation includes hospital orientation plus two weeks of unit training and one week of independent practice
• Schedules are created in 6-week increments and released two weeks in advance; block schedules cannot be guaranteed
• Holiday coverage expected on a fair and equitable basis
• Time-off requests must be submitted prior to contract approval
• First-time travelers will be considered upon review
