Description
American Traveler is hiring an experienced RN for a Level 3 Labor & Delivery position in Rapid City, SD, requiring at least 2 years of L&D experience and the ability to manage high-acuity obstetric patients.
Details
- Hospital-based Labor & Delivery unit with 10 L&D beds, 4 OB ED/triage beds, and 4 antepartum rooms
- The facility has the only Level 3 NICU in a 350-mile radius and manages a wide range of patients from low-intervention labor to high-risk complications
- Patient population includes antepartum, OB triage/ED, active and inactive labor, postpartum, couplet care, and newborns (Level I and Level II nursery)
- Patient ratios: Antepartum 1:3, Inactive Labor 1:2, Active Labor 1:1, Postpartum/Couplet Care 1:3 couplets
- Skills performed include IV starts, cervical checks, phlebotomy, magnesium sulfate administration, blood administration, insulin administration, circulating C-sections, and C-section recovery care
- Charting system: Epic
- 12-hour variable shifts with start times of 0630 or 1830; must be comfortable working both days and nights throughout the contract
- Every other weekend rotation required
- Low census call is possible
- Holiday coverage required as needed
Requirements
- Active RN license issued by the South Dakota Board of Nursing, or a Compact RN license currently in hand
- Required certifications: BLS and NRP
- Preferred certifications: ACLS, and/or certification in inpatient obstetrics, electronic fetal monitoring, or inpatient antepartum
- Minimum 2 years of L&D experience, preferably at a Level 3 or higher L&D unit (i.e., a unit affiliated with a Level 3 or higher NICU)
- Experience and competency managing high-acuity labor patients, including preeclampsia, preterm labor and delivery, and management of patients less than 35 weeks gestation
- Epic EMR experience required (manager approval needed if candidate lacks this)
- Must be comfortable providing couplet care and caring for normal newborn nursery patients (Level I care)
- Level II nursery experience strongly preferred
- Two professional references dated within the past year required for consideration
- DOB and SSN required for consideration
- Must reside more than 100 miles from the facility to be eligible for this position
Additional Information
- First-time travelers are welcome to apply
- Orientation includes NEO (facility orientation) followed by 4 days with a preceptor — 3 days in L&D and 1 day in postpartum
- Travelers will be required to work postpartum/couplet care throughout the contract
- Unit support includes a unit secretary, scrub tech, charge nurse, VAT team, Respiratory Therapy (available 24/7), OB physician team, and anesthesia/CRNA
- May be expected to precept nursing students
- Cobalt blue scrubs required and are provided by the facility
- Free parking is available on-site
- RTO requires manager approval
