This role is concerned with the development and integration of behavioral and biomedical science knowledge and techniques. It is relevant to health and illness and the application of this knowledge and these techniques to prevention, diagnosis, treatment, and rehabilitation. Within the scope of practice, the provider performs psychosocial interventions with clients. Individual, family, or group interventions, such as counseling, testing, and education of the client, are conducted. Intervention goals and objectives are developed to give education and resolve the client's problems in functioning. Participation in the establishment, implementation, and evaluation of treatment system goals and objectives is required. Clients and their families are interviewed to establish case goals and objectives. Assessment of clients is conducted to determine specific intervention techniques, and monitoring of client responses to treatment systems is essential. The provider provides feedback on the effectiveness of prescribed treatments. Evaluation of lower-level behavioral healthcare provider cases and client's progress due to prescribed treatment plans is performed. Necessary data documents are maintained to satisfy requirements of federal, state, and local agencies. Data preparation includes social histories, admission/aftercare summaries, court documents, and completion of legally required forms. The provider serves on treatment teams and program development teams. Attendance at training meetings, departmental meetings, and court hearings is necessary. Establishing and maintaining working relationships with other facilities, agencies, and support services is crucial for coordinating referrals and conducting follow-up services. Knowledge of departmental regulations, policies, and procedures is required. Understanding of governmental rules and regulations, as well as counseling techniques for group and individual settings, is necessary. The ability to counsel on sensitive matters and recognize unusual or threatening conditions is important. The provider must be able to apply social work theories, principles, and techniques.
