Job Title: Social Worker-Clinical Profession: Behavioral Health Specialty: Social Worker-Clinical Duration: Full Time Shift: Days Hours per Shift: 8 Experience: Minimum 1 year License: Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW), Professional Counselor (LPC), or Marriage and Family Therapist (LMFT) preferred. Certifications: Basic Life Support (BLS) required within 3 months of hire. Must-Have: Master’s Degree in Social Work, Psychology, Counseling, or related discipline from an accredited educational institution. Description: This position performs evidence-based, culturally relevant crisis intervention services in the emergency room and other departments for individuals experiencing behavioral, emotional, substance, and/or mental disorders. An essential component of the role is evaluation of individuals who present in crisis to determine the most appropriate level of care, up to and including involuntary psychiatric hospitalization. The clinician also performs other behavioral health services such as intake/diagnostic evaluations, case evaluations, crisis counseling and intervention, discharge planning, and coordination of care with external agencies. The clinician is an active, professional member of the interdisciplinary treatment team comprised of physicians, nurses, utilization review staff, social work, discharge planners, and others. All services are documented within the electronic health record in accordance with established policies and procedures. The clinician follows and maintains established clinical outcome measures and productivity standards. Key essential functions include providing crisis intervention services, assessing individuals in crisis, and coordinating care with other agencies and hospitals. The clinician will work closely with members of the patient’s support system, including family members and outside treatment providers. Communication must be active, collaborative, and professional as a member of the interdisciplinary treatment team. Utilization of Trauma Informed Care is required in all aspects of interactions. Short-term management of mental health and substance use disorders for individuals within the hospital and/or community setting is a crucial duty. The clinician will provide motivational interviewing, bio-psychosocial education, and skill development. Coordination of care within the health system and local community social agencies is essential to assure appropriate referrals for optimal individualized care. Complete, timely, and accurate documentation of all services is required as per policy and procedure. Maintaining licensure and adhering to patient confidentiality per HIPAA and policy is mandatory. The clinician is expected to engage and professionally participate in meetings and training sessions. Responsibilities also include responding to coding/audit requests in a professional manner and completing provider enrollment documentation. Additional duties may be assigned as necessary. Experience should include two years in a mental health or substance treatment program or similar behavioral health social service agency. Knowledge of behavioral health assessment and diagnoses for patients of all ages is required. Skills needed include the ability to assess patients for risk of suicide and develop safety plans, implement involuntary hold and treatment forms, and advocate for patients effectively. The clinician must document clear and concise reports drawing from patient observations in compliance with professional standards and regulations. Knowledge of new developments in behavioral health assessment and counseling is essential for this role.
