Job Title: Mammographic Technologist Profession: Mammography Technologist Specialty: - Duration: 13 Shift: Day Hours per Shift: 40 Experience: Minimum 2 years prior experience as a Licensed Mammography Technologist License: Must have ARRT. Must have active Diagnostic Radiography License. Certifications: Must obtain mammography certification within the first three months of employment. Must-Have: Digital screening mammography, Diagnostic mammography, 2D and 3D mammography (Digital Breast Tomosynthesis), Breast positioning and compression techniques Description: The Mammography Technologist is responsible for performing mammography examinations following ACR requirements. This position assists with breast ultrasound, stereotactic biopsy, breast localization and other radiologic guided procedures. Performs diagnostic and screening mammographic examinations on adult, adolescent, and geriatric patients in an expedient and professional manner. Performs mammographic imaging for breast needle localization procedures and stereotactic procedures, inclusive of setup and cleanup. Assists in procedures using ultrasound guidance. Provides immobilization devices, selects proper technical factors based on individual patient needs, and operates equipment for specific procedures. Identifies patient films with the correct name, x-ray number, and correctly marks films as to the side of the patient and initials all films. Develops exposed x-ray films by using processing methods. Completes patient requisitions with technologist initials, date number, and size of films. Assists with quality control procedures and documentation, including phantom image, darkroom fog test, screen-film contact test, repeat analysis, fixer retention analysis, screen cleanliness, compression test, visual machine checks, processor quality control, and darkroom cleanliness. Assists in patient education, including breast self-examination instruction and pre- and post-procedure instructions. Prepares cases to be imaged including the necessary charting and films. Assists with compiling statistics for patient follow-ups, breast localizations, patients needing biopsies, and ultrasound examinations. Documents procedures regarding quality control and quality assurance in compliance with ACR, MQSA, state regulations, and applicable guidelines. Documents pertinent information regarding patients in the Breast Center chart. Identifies the needs of the patient population served and modifies and delivers care that is specific to those needs. Communicates with the patient, parent, and/or primary caregiver(s) at their level to ensure understanding. Performs other duties and/or projects as assigned. Adheres to organizational competencies and standards of behavior.
