Registered Nurse (RN)

Position Overview

The role involves providing comprehensive nursing care in a Med/Surg Float Unit covering various surgical and medical units. This position includes a commitment to patient-centered care while adhering to established nursing standards.

Job Responsibilities

• Float between multiple units, including Medical Oncology, two surgical units, and two medical units.
• Provide total patient care with a nurse-to-patient ratio of 1:6.
• Administer basic medical/surgical nursing care, particularly for patients with surgical and medical diagnoses, including diabetes, heart disease, and COPD.
• Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to ensure comprehensive patient care.
• Participate in the transition to EPIC electronic medical records scheduled for November 2026.
• Ensure compliance with all safety and quality standards in nursing practice.

Working Conditions

This position requires a 12-hour shift from 7 AM to 7 PM, with every other weekend requirements. Orientation to the unit will involve three shifts of specific training.

Qualifications

• Current BLS certification (AHA).
• Minimum of 2 years of relevant nursing experience in a large hospital setting.
• No first-time travelers; candidates must possess basic medical/surgical experience.
• Ability to float to various Med/Surg pods as needed.

Additional Information

Remote telemetry monitoring is utilized, and RNs are not required to interpret telemetry strips. Respiratory therapy is easily accessible for assistance. There are nurse aids and patient care technicians assisting on the unit, with varying ratios based on patient needs.

Dress code includes navy scrubs, which are not provided. A charge nurse is present on each shift and also takes patient assignments.
