Description

American Traveler is hiring an experienced RN for a Med/Surg Neuro Unit position requiring at least 2 years of RN experience with 1 year of direct Med/Surg experience and NC or compact RN licensure.

Details

  • Work in a Medical Surgical - Neuro unit within a hospital setting
  • Patient population includes stroke, neurosurgery, epilepsy, traumatic and non-traumatic subdural hematomas, and other neuro diagnoses
  • Unit includes a 4-bed Epilepsy Monitoring Unit (EMU), though travelers are typically not required to work in this area unless specially trained
  • Unit has 43 rooms/beds with a daily census of approximately 42 patients
  • Patient ratio is 1:6
  • Night shift schedule, 4x12 hours, 18:45-7:15
  • Contract length of 13 weeks or longer
  • Option to work 36 or 48 hours per week
  • Required to work every other weekend
  • Floating required to other MS/Tele areas, which may include COVID care units
  • Uses Pyxis, Epic, and SBAR charting systems

Requirements

  • Active RN license (NC or Compact) currently in hand or pending
  • Current certifications: BLS, NIHSS, and ACLS (preferred)
  • Minimum 2 years of RN experience with at least 1 year of direct Med/Surg experience required
  • Must have completed at least 2 successful prior travel contracts; first-time travelers will not be considered
  • Stepdown/PCU experience preferred
  • Skills required: IV start and telemetry, interpretation and management of dysrhythmias, and Med/Surg neuro experience
  • Must pass EKG testing prior to start

Additional Information

  • Provide care primarily for stroke patients as well as neurosurgery and other neuro diagnoses
  • Manage cardiac and vasoactive drips (no titration required)
  • 36-hour unit orientation required
  • Navy scrubs required
  • If a scheduled shift is missed, the missed day must be made up during the same week or at the end of the contract
  • If RTO includes weekends, contract end date will be extended to make up for those dates
  • Must work 2 of 3 major holidays
  • Up to 7 days of RTO can be auto-approved if not falling on a holiday; additional RTO requires facility approval
  • No RTO allowed during the first week of the assignment
  • No additional RTO may be requested after signing
  • Local candidates accepted at a lower rate within 50 miles of the facility
  • Travel pairs are allowed if placed on different units and disclosed at submission
  • Previous PERM, PRN, or EP employees of Novant Health or New Hanover must wait 12 months before applying and disclose employment history for facility approval
  • Current travel or per diem clinicians at the facility must choose between travel or per diem status, not both
