Description

American Traveler is seeking an experienced RN for a 13-week night shift travel contract on a Med/Surg PCU/Tele Neuro Trauma unit at a Level II Trauma Center, with drip titration and trach/vent experience strongly preferred.

Details

  • Acute care stepdown unit (PCU) with a neuro trauma focus at a Level II Trauma Center
  • 28-bed unit serving a neurological and trauma orthopedic patient population, including strokes, seizures, Guillain-Barré, myasthenia gravis, spinal injuries, thrombectomies, TNK/TPA post-procedure care, endovascular neuro specialties, AMS, dementia, traumatic hematomas/bleeds, and farm and MVA accident injuries
  • Night shift nurse-to-patient ratio is 1:5–6, dependent on acuity
  • RNs are required to titrate drips including Heparin, Nitro, Diltiazem, Amiodarone, 3% saline, and Insulin
  • RT equipment on unit includes vents, trachs, CPAP, BiPAP, Vapotherm, and EtCO2
  • Telemetry monitoring is centrally located in a separate area
  • Charting system is Cerner (transitioning to Epic)
  • 12-hour night shifts, 1900–0730
  • Self-scheduling with manager balancing; schedule opens 6 weeks in advance
  • Every other Friday, Saturday, and Sunday required
  • Floating required to sister MS units across 6 specialties: mixed care, cardiac, general, MS ortho, and heme/onc
  • No on-call or standby requirement

Requirements

  • Active WI or Compact RN license required by start date
  • Current BLS (AHA) and NIHSS certifications required
  • Minimum 2 years of MS, PCU, or ICU experience required
  • Relevant setting experience within the last year required
  • Drip titration experience required
  • Trach and vent experience highly preferred; facility is willing to train on vents for candidates open to learning
  • BSN not required
  • 2 professional references required: 1 supervisor reference from within the last 12 months of relevant experience, and 1 peer or supervisor reference from within the last 3 years of relevant experience

Additional Information

  • First-time travelers are welcome to apply
  • Orientation consists of 1 general orientation shift and 1 shift with a preceptor
  • Holiday coverage is typically required for 2–3 holidays in winter, otherwise every other holiday
  • Any solid color scrubs are acceptable
  • Candidates who previously worked at this facility as permanent staff must have an end date at least 6 months prior to their start date, and hospital approval is required
  • Candidates residing within 80 miles of the facility are considered local and may be subject to a reduced travel pay rate
  • Nurse aides are available on the unit at a ratio of 1:9 on days and 1:12 on nights
  • Charge nurses on nights take a full patient assignment; charge nurses on days take a smaller assignment
