Description

American Traveler is hiring a Med/Surg RN for a night shift Rapid Response unit requiring 2+ years of recent experience and Epic documentation skills.

Details

• Work in the Medical Surgical Rapid Response unit of a hospital setting
• Patient population includes severe orthopedic trauma, traumatic brain injuries, spine injuries, neurological trauma/nerve damage, and subdural hematoma
• Patient ratios of 1:5-6
• Night shift, 3x12-hour shifts (18:45-7:15)
• 36 or 48 hours per week accepted
• Assigned to every other weekend
• Floating required to similar units and alternate care locations with inpatients holding
• Uses Pyxis, Epic, and SBAR communication systems
• 13-week assignment length

Requirements

• Active RN license, NC or Compact required
• Minimum 2 years of RN experience required within the last 5 years
• BLS certification required, ACLS preferred
• Epic documentation experience required
• Skills required: heparin drips, PCA, colostomy care, feeding tube management, blood product administration, central and peripheral line care/management, phlebotomy, PICC line management, IV starts, management of dysrhythmias, O2 protocol management, non-invasive airway management, isolation precautions/PPE, surgical drains, chest tubes (Emerson/PleurEvac), nasal cannula, oral suctioning, tracheostomy management, and wound care
• Preferred skills include interpretation of dysrhythmias, pre/post hemodialysis management, management of drips, CVA care, pre/post neurosurgery, and spinal cord injury care
• Must pass EKG testing prior to start
• Two professional references from a supervisor within the past 2 years required (pending references accepted at submission)

Additional Information

• Provide medical-surgical nursing care for trauma, neurological, and orthopedic patients in a Rapid Response unit
• Contract staff may be assigned to a Storm Team or Hurricane Team and may be required to report during catastrophic events, mass casualties, or disasters
• Consolidation to a centralized office mid-contract may occur, with reassignment to units as needed
• Navy scrubs required
• Unit orientation consists of 12 hours, plus 16 hours of organizational education
• First-time travelers are welcome to apply
• Local candidates within 50 miles accepted at a lower rate
• Previous PERM, PRN, or EP employees of the hospital system must wait 12 months before applying, with facility approval required
• Up to 7 days of RTO can be auto-approved if not falling on a holiday, with no RTO allowed during the first week of assignment
• Must work 2 of the 3 major holidays
• Travel pairs are allowed if on different units and disclosed at submission
