Med/Surg Registered Nurse Job Requirements

• Current Illinois Registered Nurse (RN) license
• At least 1 year of professional registered nursing experience, preferably in a medical-surgical, postoperative, or surgical setting
• Current CPR/BLS certification
• Current ACLS certification
• Strong clinical judgment, patient assessment skills, and ability to manage a diverse adult patient population
• Ability to work collaboratively in a fast-paced inpatient healthcare environment

Medical-Surgical Nurse Responsibilities

• Provide comprehensive nursing care to adult medical-surgical and postoperative patients
• Assess patient conditions, develop and implement individualized nursing care plans, and evaluate outcomes
• Administer medications and treatments safely in accordance with established standards
• Monitor patients for changes in condition and promptly communicate concerns to appropriate care team members
• Collaborate with providers, patient care technicians, and interdisciplinary staff to coordinate inpatient care
• Educate patients and families about treatments, recovery, medications, and discharge instructions
• Accurately document assessments, interventions, and patient responses in the medical record
• Support a positive medical-surgical unit environment while maintaining patient safety and infection-prevention standards
