Description

American Traveler is hiring a Med/Surg RN for a Level I Trauma Center floating within the Staff Float Pool, requiring at least 18 months of MedSurg/ICU experience and an AL or compact RN license.

Details

• Level I Trauma Center, Level III NICU, and Primary Stroke Center hospital setting with 492 beds
• Staff Float Pool MedSurg position with a home unit assigned on the first day of orientation
• May float to units such as 6 North Trauma Surgical, 5 South Neuroscience, 5 North MedSurg/Oncology, 3 South Orthopedics, or 3 North MS/Ortho/Urology depending on need
• Patient ratios range from 1:4-6 depending on unit
• 12-hour night shifts, 7p-7a, on a 36/48 schedule (36 standard hours per week)
• Weekend rotation required (every other weekend or 4 weekend days per month)
• No on-call requirements
• Floating required to like units (MS-MS, MS-ICU task, MS-ER/MS holds; ICU-ICU, ICU-MS task with a limit of 3, ICU-ER/ICU holds)
• 4-week schedule cycle using Smart Square (no self-scheduling)
• Uses Cerner EMR (Epic experience also considered)
• IV pumps: Plum 360; medication dispensing via Omnicell; monitors: Spacelabs
• Telemetry monitored by Telemetry Techs, but RNs must interpret and confirm strip readings every 4 hours
• Unit support includes CNAs (1:10-12 ratio), HUC/receptionist, charge nurse, phlebotomy, IV/VAT team, and hospitalist coverage

Requirements

• Active RN license (AL state or compact) required
• BLS and NIHSS certifications required
• Minimum of 18 months experience in MedSurg and/or ICU required
• Cerner or Epic EMR experience required; Cerner required if experience is strictly ICU-based
• Skills may include wound care, chest tubes, NGT, IV starts, trach care, PEG, ostomy/colostomy care, central line blood draws, and medication administration depending on assigned unit
• Telemetry experience preferred and should be disclosed if applicable

Additional Information

• Provide direct patient care including turning, bathing, and ADL assistance in lower-ratio units
• First-time travelers will be considered
• Previous Baptist staff must wait 6 months from their last shift worked before returning as a traveler
• Travelers new to the facility or returning after 1+ years receive 24 hours of classroom orientation and 24 hours on-unit
• Rehire orientation length depends on the employee's last date worked at the facility
• Holiday coverage expected for one major and one minor seasonal holiday per policy, though specific dates off are not guaranteed prior to arrival
• Up to 7 days of RTO can be pre-approved excluding facility blackout dates, which require additional approval
• Scrub color is unrestricted
• Free parking available in the parking deck (2nd through 4th levels)
• Must reside outside a 60-mile radius of the facility; local candidates within that radius are not eligible
