Description

American Traveler is hiring an experienced RN for a Med/Surg position requiring at least 1 year of experience and BLS certification, with first-time travelers welcome to apply.

Details

• Acute care Med/Surg unit with 48 beds
• Nurse-to-patient ratios of 1:5-7 on days and 1:6-8 on nights
• Common diagnoses include pneumonia, UTI, altered mental status, GI bleed, alcohol withdrawal, and falls/weakness
• 12-hour day shifts with every other weekend required
• Uses EPIC EMR
• Titration of common drips such as heparin, bumex, and lasix required, excluding cardiac drips
• Charge nurses take patient assignments on day shift when two are scheduled, and on night shift only when two are present
• PCTs support the unit at an average ratio of 1:10-12, assisting with vitals, EKGs, bathing, feeding, and positioning
• Respiratory Therapy manages ventilators, BiPap, CPAP, and high flow O2, with RNs responsible only for monitoring
• Telemetry monitor techs handle strip reading; RNs are not required to interpret telemetry
• Floating required to other Med/Surg, Med/Surg-Tele, or IMC units for lower acuity patients
• No self-scheduling or block scheduling; schedule created by the unit manager
• Holiday coverage required per rotation schedule
• No call or standby requirements

Requirements

• Active WV or Compact RN license required
• BLS certification required
• Minimum of 1 year of RN experience required
• Acute care Med/Surg experience preferred
• EPIC EMR experience preferred

Additional Information

• Provide direct patient care including assessments, medication administration, and coordination with RT and PCT staff
• 1 day of orientation with an educator/computer systems training and 1 day with a preceptor
• Navy blue scrub color required for RNs
• First-time travelers are welcome to apply
• Must reside more than 50 miles from the facility to qualify for travel positions
• Travelers who previously worked at any WVU Medicine facility must have taken a 2-year break before reapplying
• Travelers may not work within the WVU system for longer than a year without taking a required 2-year break
• Manager will work with staff on requested time off (RTO), though flexibility is expected to help fill scheduling gaps
