Travel RN Job Details
- Assignment Type: Travel Registered Nurse contract
- Start Date: November 2, 2026
- Duration: 13 weeks, with opportunities to extend up to 26 weeks
- Location: Battle Creek, Michigan
- Weekly Estimated Pay: $1,950–$2,060
- Schedule: 3 shifts per week, 36 hours per week
- Shift: 12-hour nights, approximately 7:00 PM–7:30 AM
- Weekend Requirement: Every other weekend
- Call: Not required
- Patient Population: Adult and geriatric patients
- Care Environment: Medical-Surgical and Observation/ER Overflow units with rapid patient turnover
- Floating: Travel nurses are first to float to other Medical-Surgical and overflow units based on staffing needs
- Patient Ratios: Typically 1:5–6; ratios may increase during surges, with LPN support when applicable
Medical-Surgical Travel Nurse Requirements
- Current Registered Nurse (RN) license in the state of Michigan
- At least 1 year of recent Medical-Surgical or comparable acute-care nursing experience
- Travel nursing experience strongly preferred; candidates without travel experience may be considered with substantial permanent Medical-Surgical experience
- Current BLS certification from the American Heart Association
- ACLS, CPI, and NIHSS certification or experience preferred according to unit needs
- Experience caring for patients with CHF, diabetes, TIA, abdominal pain, and other common Medical-Surgical diagnoses
- Ability to manage patient assignments of approximately 5–6 patients while maintaining safety, throughput, and a positive patient experience
- Comfort working with a multidisciplinary team that may include RNs, LPNs, technicians, respiratory services, physical therapy, pharmacy, radiology, social services, and rapid response teams
- Epic electronic medical record charting experience preferred
- Must be willing to work holidays as scheduled and collaborate with varied staffing models
- Flu vaccination required; medical exemptions may be considered in accordance with applicable policy
Travel Registered Nurse Responsibilities
- Provide safe, efficient, and compassionate nursing care to adult and geriatric Medical-Surgical and Observation patients
- Perform ongoing assessments and rapidly reassess patients’ readiness for discharge or need for continued acute care
- Prioritize nursing care during periods of high census, patient surges, and rapid admissions and discharges
- Manage IV therapy, peripheral and PICC lines, central-line blood draws, blood products, insulin protocols, heparin, telemetry monitoring, oxygen therapy, and related treatments within scope and competency
- Provide care for patients requiring wound care, surgical drain management, ostomy care, feeding tube management, tracheostomy care, non-invasive airway support, and other acute-care interventions
- Recognize changes in patient condition and initiate appropriate interventions, including use of rapid response and code team resources
- Collaborate with providers and interdisciplinary team members to coordinate treatment, discharge planning, and continuity of care
- Float to other Medical-Surgical or overflow areas as needed while maintaining flexibility and professionalism
- Accurately document assessments, interventions, medication administration, and outcomes in the electronic medical record
- Support a positive patient experience through clear communication, responsiveness, and respectful teamwork
