- Busy neuroscience, stroke, trauma, telemetry, and progressive-care step-down setting
- 31-bed unit serving adult and geriatric patients
- Interdisciplinary support from rehabilitation, respiratory services, pharmacy, radiology, social services, and rapid response teams
- Orientation and pre-start learning modules are required
Travel Registered Nurse Job Requirements
- Current Registered Nurse (RN) licensure eligible for practice in Wisconsin
- At least 1 year of recent acute-care nursing experience
- Recent telemetry, neuro step-down, PCU, DOU, IMC, or progressive-care nursing experience
- Experience caring for patients with stroke, neurosurgery, trauma, and complex medical-surgical conditions
- Trauma Level II experience required
- Previous travel nursing experience required; first-time travelers are not accepted
- Current ACLS, BLS, and NIHSS certifications
- Epic electronic health record charting experience required
- Demonstrated ability to interpret telemetry and dysrhythmias and perform comprehensive neurological assessments
- Ability to meet required vaccination, OSHA respiratory clearance, and mask fit-testing standards
Telemetry and Neuro Step-Down RN Responsibilities
- Provide comprehensive nursing care for patients with stroke, intracranial bleeds, traumatic brain injuries, neurosurgical conditions, trauma, and progressive-care needs
- Perform frequent neurological assessments, including NIHSS evaluations, and promptly report changes in condition
- Continuously monitor telemetry, recognize dysrhythmias, and respond appropriately to changes in cardiac status
- Care for lumbar drains, surgical drains, central lines, PICC lines, feeding tubes, chest tubes, and other specialized equipment
- Manage IV therapies, insulin protocols, heparin protocols, blood products, oxygen therapy, and non-invasive airway support as indicated
- Provide pre- and post-operative care for neurosurgical patients and support patients recovering from stroke-related procedures
- Deliver stroke education to patients and families while promoting safe transitions of care
- Collaborate with physicians, therapists, respiratory services, pharmacy, social services, and rapid response teams
- Maintain accurate documentation in Epic and consistently follow patient-safety, infection-prevention, and clinical standards
