Description

American Traveler is hiring an experienced Med/Surg RN for a night shift position requiring telemetry experience and CA licensure.

Details

• Acute care Level 3 trauma hospital setting on a combined adult Med/Surg and pediatric Med/Surg telemetry unit with 45 total beds
• Patient ratio of 1:5
• Common diagnoses include COPD, post-op, GI bleeds, OBGYN surgeries, ortho, sepsis, altered mental status, chest pain rule-out, stroke, cellulitis, and ETOH withdrawal
• Uses Cerner EMR
• RNs titrate Heparin and Protonix drips
• Nurse aides support the unit on 8 or 10 hour shifts, with no tech coverage from 1am-7am
• RT equipment used includes CPAP, BiPap, and High-Flow
• 12-hour night shifts on a 7-7 block schedule with self-scheduling available
• Every other weekend or 4 weekend shifts within a 4-week schedule required
• Holiday coverage required as part of staff rotation
• Call/standby requirement applies
• Floating not required but optional to telemetry or OB units for those with relevant experience
• First-to-float status for this position

Requirements

• Active CA RN license (Standard or Compact) currently in hand
• Current certifications: BLS and ACLS (AHA); PALS preferred
• 2-3 years of Med/Surg specialty experience required
• Telemetry experience required
• Pediatric experience preferred; travelers without pediatric experience will not be assigned pediatric patients
• Cerner EMR experience preferred
• Must pass Relias Dysrhythmia exam (basic or advanced) prior to offer confirmation
• Must pass a sterile technique competency test for Foley catheter insertion and central line dressing changes on first day of orientation

Additional Information

• Fast-paced unit with high patient turnover and an average length of stay of 3 days
• Hospitalist coverage available onsite but not 24/7
• Charge nurse serves as team lead and does not take a patient assignment
• Unit-specific orientation lasts 2-3 days, including a scavenger hunt activity
• Navy blue scrubs required
• First-time travelers may be considered
• Candidates may not have been directly employed (full-time, part-time, or PRN) by any CommonSpirit-affiliated facility, including CHI or Dignity, within the past year; PRN employment through outside firms is acceptable
• Candidates who fail a second attempt at the Relias exam or sterile technique test are ineligible for 6 months at CommonSpirit Sacramento region and Arizona facilities
