Description

American Traveler is seeking an experienced RN for a Med/Surg position on a 6N Overflow unit, requiring 2 years of experience and rotating day/night shifts including weekends.

Details

  • Acute care Med/Surg unit (6N Overflow) in a hospital setting with 30 beds
  • Common diagnoses include CHF, COPD, cellulitis, pneumonia, urosepsis, AKI, appendectomy, and cholecystitis
  • Patient ratio of 1:6-7 (candidates must be comfortable with a ratio of up to 1:7)
  • Telemetry monitored remotely by monitor techs
  • Intermittent BiPAP used on unit (no ventilators)
  • RNs are required to titrate heparin drips based on aPTT results
  • PCTs available on the unit
  • Charge RN on the floor carries an assignment
  • EMR: Epic
  • 12-hour rotating day/night shifts, weekends scheduled as needed (typically every other weekend)
  • No on-call or standby requirement
  • Floating required based on census; travelers are floated first
  • 13-week contract

Requirements

  • Active WV or Compact RN license required
  • Required certifications: BLS (AHA) and NIH Stroke Scale (NIHSS)
  • Minimum 2 years of RN experience required
  • BSN not required
  • Must reside more than 50 miles from the facility to qualify
  • A copy of an unexpired driver's license is required for consideration
  • Any licensing hits must be disclosed upfront
  • Must be comfortable with a patient ratio of up to 1:7

Additional Information

  • Scrub color: Navy Blue
  • Travelers who have previously worked at any WVU Medicine location must have taken a 2-year break before reapplying
  • Travelers may not work within WVU Medicine for longer than one cumulative year before requiring a 2-year break
  • Scheduling managed through Qgenda
  • 2 references required for consideration: 1 supervisor reference (from a permanent facility if worked in the last 12 months) and 1 peer or additional supervisor reference (e.g., Charge RN)
  • A skills checklist completed within the past year is required for consideration
