Description

American Traveler is hiring an experienced RN for a Med/Surg Acute Care night shift position requiring an active IL RN license and hospital experience.

Details

  • Work in the Medical-Surgical Acute Care (MSAC) unit of an acute care hospital setting
  • 18-bed unit with mostly private rooms and one semi-private room
  • General medicine patient population with various diagnoses
  • Nurse-to-patient ratios of 4-5:1 during days and 5-6:1 during nights
  • RNs are required to titrate Heparin drips
  • Patients may have oxygen requirements up to 6L NC and stable BiPAP/CPAP overnight or PRN
  • Telemetry patients are monitored remotely via house-wide telemetry department using Phillips equipment
  • 24-hour Charge RN and House Supervisor coverage on each shift
  • Two PCTs per shift with a 9:1 ratio when the unit is full
  • Unit clerk (PCL) provides 24-hour coverage
  • Uses EPIC EMR
  • 12-hour night shifts (7p-7a) with shift report at 7a and 7p
  • Required to work every other weekend (Fri/Sat nights)
  • Holiday rotation required per policy
  • No call or standby requirements
  • Travel RNs are first to float to other units as needed

Requirements

  • Active IL RN license required
  • Current BLS (AHA) certification required
  • ACLS preferred for Charge RN position
  • 1+ year of hospital experience preferred
  • EPIC EMR experience
  • RNs are expected to attempt IV starts and utilize unit resources if unsuccessful
  • Negative drug screen required for all panels

Additional Information

  • Provide direct patient care to general medicine patients with various diagnoses on a busy Med/Surg unit
  • Troubleshoot respiratory equipment including oxygen therapy and BiPAP/CPAP as needed
  • Collaborate with 24/7 in-house Hospitalist/Intensivist, Respiratory Therapy, and Pharmacy teams
  • Inpatient phlebotomy team handles blood draws
  • All medications are prepared by pharmacy staff
  • Travel RNs typically complete one 12-hour orientation shift with a unit preceptor
  • Any color scrubs accepted; clinicians must provide their own (no pediatric scrubs)
  • Local candidates within 50 miles of the facility are eligible for a local rate
  • First-time travelers are welcome to apply
