Description

American Traveler is hiring a Med/Surg RN for a Post Surgical Unit position requiring acute care surgical floor and stepdown/PCU experience.

Details

• Post Surgical Unit within a hospital setting
• Caring for pre- and post-surgical inpatients, some in stepdown care
• Manages patients with drains, wounds, trachs, ostomies, NGT, or DHT
• Staffing ratios of 5:1 for surgical patients and 3:1 for stepdown area
• Day shift schedule, 12-hour shifts, 3 days per week, 36 hours weekly
• OR candidates will not be considered

Requirements

• Active RN license (Oklahoma State or multistate compact eNLC) required
• Current BLS certification from the American Heart Association
• Minimum of 1 year of nursing experience required
• Stepdown/PCU and acute care surgical floor experience required
• ENT and/or transplant experience preferred
• Associate's Degree in Nursing required; BSN preferred
• Strong knowledge of nursing theory, practices, and techniques
• Effective verbal and written communication skills
• Basic computer skills required

Additional Information

• Provides direct nursing care to an assigned group of surgical and stepdown patients
• Documents patient responses to interventions and treatments, and notes changes in physician orders
• Administers medications and manages IV infusions and blood products
• Coordinates with physicians on examinations and minor diagnostic procedures
• Communicates care plans with patients and families through discharge
• Delegates tasks to support staff as needed
• Candidates must live outside a 50-mile radius of the facility to be eligible
• Compliance documentation must be completed promptly, as start dates cannot be pushed
• Returning travelers may extend only once for a total of 26 weeks, requiring a 6-month separation before reapplying
