Description

American Traveler is hiring an experienced RN for a MedSurg/Tele position at a Level 1 Trauma academic medical center, requiring an active NC or compact RN license and 2 years of MedSurg experience.

Details

  • Work in the Admission Holding unit of a Level 1 Trauma academic medical center
  • 20-bed transitional care unit split between 5A and 5B
  • General MedSurg patient population including CHF, COPD, kidney/liver/GI/respiratory issues, CIWA patients, infections, and wounds
  • Any service line can admit, so occasional general surgery and other patient types may be seen
  • Patient ratio of 1:5
  • 12-hour day shift schedule from 0700-1900, totaling 36 hours per week
  • Every other weekend rotation required
  • 50% holiday coverage required
  • No on-call or call-back requirements
  • Floating required within scope of practice at the hospital
  • Uses EPIC EMR, Alaris IV pumps, and Omnicell medication dispensing
  • Bedside cardiac monitors with central monitoring at the nurses' station
  • 24/7 support from phlebotomy, respiratory therapy, hospitalists, and residents
  • 1 CNA per unit (5A and 5B) with 1 charge nurse covering both areas

Requirements

  • Active RN license (NC or Compact) currently in hand
  • Current certifications: BLS and ACLS
  • Minimum 2 years of MedSurg experience required
  • Minimum 12 months of core work experience in unit specialty area, with most recent experience within the last year
  • Skills required: trach care, chest tubes, IV starts, wound care, dressing changes, wound vacs, drains, cardiac rhythm interpretation, and central line blood draws
  • Experience with non-titrating drips required: Heparin, Lasix, and Protonix
  • Experience with non-titrating drips preferred: Cardizem and Amiodarone
  • EPIC EMR experience required
  • Last 4 digits of SSN and full DOB required for consideration
  • Minimum 1 professional reference dated within one year from a Supervisor, Manager, Director, or Charge RN

Additional Information

  • Provide MedSurg/Tele nursing care in a transitional care unit setting
  • Facility is a Level 1 Trauma Center and academic teaching hospital with 885 licensed beds
  • Facility includes a Chest Pain Center and Stroke Center
  • RNs may assist with lab collection as needed
  • Clinical interview required as part of the hiring process
  • Orientation includes NEO and 2 shifts on the unit
  • Scrub color required: Royal Blue
  • Free parking available
  • First-time travelers will not be considered for this position
  • Candidates must live outside a 50-mile radius of the facility to be eligible, as local candidates are not accepted
  • Candidates must be separated from any AHSE facility for at least 1 year after working a permanent position
