Description

American Traveler is hiring an experienced RN for a Med/Surg Tele position at a Level 1 Trauma academic medical center, requiring an active NC or compact RN license and prior Med/Tele experience.

Details

  • Work on a 10-bed Med/Surg-Telemetry unit within a Level 1 Trauma, academic teaching hospital
  • Average daily census of 8 patients
  • Care for a variety of Med/Surg patients including DM, respiratory and GI illnesses, neuro and trauma cases with spinal precautions
  • Care for pre-CT surgery (CABG) and clean cath lab patients, including management of TR bands
  • RN to patient ratio of 1:5 and CNA to patient ratio of 1:10
  • 12-hour day shifts from 0700-1900, totaling 36 hours per week
  • Every other weekend (EOW) rotation required
  • No on-call or call-back requirements
  • Floating required to Rehab, 4 Ardmore, 10 Reynolds, 9 Reynolds, 5 Ardmore, Burn-10 North, and 4A MedSurg Overflow
  • Uses Epic EMR, Alaris IV pumps, and Omnicell medication dispensing
  • Telemetry monitors located at bedside with RN responsible for reading and interpreting cardiac strips
  • 24/7 RT, hospitalist, and intensivist support available

Requirements

  • Active RN license (NC or Compact) required
  • Current BLS, ACLS, and NIHSS certifications required
  • Minimum 1 year of Med/Surg-Tele experience required
  • Travel experience preferred
  • Skilled in cardiac rhythm interpretation, PCA pump management, surgical drain care, and wound care
  • Experience managing TR bands required
  • Comfortable learning to manage Cardizem, Nitro, and Amio drips
  • Epic EMR experience required
  • Must reside more than 50 miles from the facility to be eligible
  • Last 4 digits of SSN and full DOB required for consideration
  • Minimum of 1 professional reference dated within the last year from a Supervisor, Manager, Director, or Charge RN

Additional Information

  • Provide direct nursing care within a fast-paced academic medical center known for a friendly, collaborative unit culture
  • Support staff includes CNAs for vitals and ADLs, a receptionist/HUC, and a charge nurse who may occasionally carry a full patient assignment
  • Phlebotomy team available for peripheral blood draws, but RNs are responsible for starting their own IVs
  • Unit-specific equipment includes external fixators, chest tubes, PCAs, trachs, and complex wound care supplies
  • Orientation includes New Employee Orientation (NEO) plus 2 days of departmental orientation
  • Royal blue scrubs required
  • Free parking provided onsite
  • Travelers will be expected to work 75% of holidays
  • First-time travelers are welcome to apply
  • Returning travelers must be separated from any AHSE facility for at least 1 year following a permanent position
