Description

American Traveler is hiring a Med/Surg Tele RN for a 16-bed Acute Care for the Elderly unit at a Level 1 Trauma academic medical center, requiring 2+ years of Med/Surg experience and telemetry strip reading skills.

Details

• Acute Care for the Elderly unit within a Level 1 Trauma, academic teaching hospital
• 16-bed unit with consistently full census
• Patient population includes geriatric (65+) patients with diagnoses such as DM, GI, respiratory, renal, and wound care needs, with a focus on mobilization
• High bed turnover of 3-4 per stay
• RN to patient ratio of 5-6:1; CNA ratio of 8:1
• 12-hour day shifts from 7A-7P, 36 hours per week
• Every other weekend (EOW) rotation required
• No on-call or call-back requirements
• Floating required to 8 Reynolds, 8 North, 9 North A/B, 9 Ardmore, 10 Ardmore, 8 North-B, and 8 Ardmore
• Centralized telemetry monitoring (not unit-based)
• Uses Epic EMR, Alaris IV pumps, and Omnicell medication dispensing

Requirements

• Active RN license (NC or Compact) required
• BLS certification required
• Minimum 2 years of Med/Surg experience required
• Minimum 12 months of core experience in unit specialty area, with most recent experience within the last year
• Strong IV skills and experience reading telemetry strips required
• Must sign telemetry strips each shift
• Strong time management, interpersonal, and written/oral communication skills required
• Ability to provide direct and indirect patient care and work collaboratively in a team setting
• Ability to tolerate moderate to high stress levels
• Age-appropriate care experience required
• Epic EMR experience required
• Last 4 digits of SSN and full DOB required for consideration
• Minimum 1 professional reference dated within the last year from a Supervisor, Manager, Director, or Charge RN

Additional Information

• Provide direct patient care to geriatric Med/Surg/Tele patients including mobilization, wound care, and dressing changes
• Supported by CNAs, HUC/receptionist, charge nurse, phlebotomy, rapid response team, 24/7 respiratory therapy, and OT/PT/ST
• No dedicated IV/VAT team on the unit
• Orientation includes New Employee Orientation (NEO) and 2 days of departmental orientation
• Royal blue scrub color required
• Unit culture is patient-centered with an emphasis on high reliability and strong teamwork

• Travelers will work 75% of holidays
