Description

American Traveler is hiring an experienced RN for a MedSurg/Tele position in an Emergency Observation Unit, requiring 18 months of Med/Tele RN experience and an active NC or compact RN license.

Details

  • Work in the Emergency Observation Unit of a Trauma Level III teaching hospital
  • 10-bed unit with an average daily census of 8 patients
  • Patient population includes chest pain, syncope, and angina cases
  • RN to patient ratio of 1:5 and CNA ratio of 1:10
  • 12-hour day shifts, 0700-1900, 36 hours per week
  • Weekend rotation required every other weekend
  • No call or call-back requirements
  • Uses Epic EMR, Alaris IV pumps, and Omnicell medication dispensing system
  • Floating required within Region 1 facilities (Cabarrus, University City, Stanly, Lake Norman, Central Division including CMC Main, Mercy, and LCH peds) based on staffing needs
  • Travelers are prioritized for floating assignments and must demonstrate clinical flexibility across units within scope of practice

Requirements

  • Active RN license (NC or Compact) currently in hand
  • Current certifications: BLS, ACLS, and NIHSS
  • Minimum 18 months of Med/Tele RN experience required
  • Skills required include stroke care, cardiac rhythm interpretation, trach care, PIV starts, chest tube management, NGT placement, and drain/tube management (Dobhoff, PEG, Hemovac, JP drains, flexiseals, foley)
  • Experience with PCA pumps and medication drip management including cardiac drips, Heparin, blood products, and IVF
  • Epic EMR experience preferred
  • Last 4 digits of SSN and full DOB required for consideration
  • Minimum 1 professional reference dated within the last year from a Supervisor, Manager, Director, or Charge RN

Additional Information

  • Provide direct nursing care to Med/Surg-Tele patients within a busy Emergency Observation Unit
  • Support team includes a Supervisor, Charge RN, Resource RN, and 24/7 access to Respiratory Therapy and Hospitalist coverage
  • Phlebotomy needs are managed collaboratively between RNs and the IV/VAT team
  • Orientation includes New Employee Orientation (NEO) plus 2 days of departmental orientation
  • Holiday coverage required for 75% of holidays
  • Up to 6 days of RTO may be approved, excluding holidays; unmet contracted hours must be added to the end of the assignment
  • Schedule follows a 6-week cycle
  • Navy scrub color required
  • Free employee parking deck provided
  • Department culture includes team activities such as a book club and Netflix watch clubs
  • First-time travelers not preferred but will be considered
  • Candidates must reside more than 50 miles from the facility to be eligible
  • Previous employees who held a permanent position with the health system must have been separated for at least 1 year before applying
