Description

American Traveler is hiring an experienced RN for a Med/Surg Tele position requiring a NC or compact license and at least 18 months of Med/Tele nursing experience.

Details

  • 32-bed Medical/Surgical Telemetry unit within a 241-bed Level 3 Trauma hospital
  • Patient population includes stroke, respiratory illness (flu/pneumonia/COVID), renal failure, peritoneal dialysis, and wound care cases
  • RN to patient ratio of 1:5-6, with surge staffing ratios up to 1:7-8
  • CNA to patient ratio of 1:10
  • 12-hour night shift schedule (1900-0700) totaling 36 hours per week
  • Every other weekend rotation required
  • Possibility of low census call, with call-back required up to 3am for nights and 3pm for days
  • Floating required within Region 3 (Cleveland, Kings Mtn, Lincoln, and Central Division including CMC Main, Mercy, and LCH) as needed within scope of practice
  • Uses Epic EMR
  • Unit utilizes virtual nursing technology (VNO) for medication witnessing, monitoring, and admission/discharge support
  • 24/7 support available from RT, Hospitalist, and Intensivist teams
  • Dedicated phlebotomy and IV/VAT team support available
  • Telemetry monitoring/tech support provided

Requirements

  • Active RN license (NC or Compact) required
  • Current BLS, ACLS, and NIHSS certifications required
  • Minimum 18 months of Med/Tele RN experience required
  • Skilled in cardiac rhythm interpretation and non-titrating cardiac drips (Cardizem/Amiodarone)
  • Experience with wound care, drain/tube management, PIV starts, and central line management
  • Epic EMR experience required
  • Last 4 digits of SSN and full DOB required for consideration
  • Minimum 1 professional reference dated within the past year from a Supervisor, Manager, Director, or Charge RN

Additional Information

  • Provide medical/surgical and telemetry nursing care within a fast-paced, patient-centered unit known for strong teamwork
  • Support provided by CNAs for ADLs, mobility, and feeding; charge nurse may or may not carry a patient assignment
  • Facility does not utilize a HUC on this unit
  • Certified Chest Pain Center and Stroke Center
  • Travelers must work 75% of holidays
  • Up to 6 days of RTO may be approved, excluding holidays; any missed contracted hours must be made up by extending the contract
  • Schedule cycle rotates every 6 weeks
  • Navy scrub color required
  • Free parking available
  • New Employee Orientation (NEO) plus 2 days of departmental orientation provided
  • First-time travelers are welcome to apply
  • Candidates must reside more than 50 miles from the facility to be eligible; local candidates are not accepted
  • Previous employees who worked a permanent position at this health system must be separated for at least 1 year before being eligible to return
