Description
American Traveler is hiring a Med/Surg Tele RN with WI or compact RN license, 2+ years of acute care experience, and telemetry certification test clearance required prior to starting.
Details
- Med/Surg Tele unit within a hospital setting
- Adult and geriatric patients with a variety of medical/surgical conditions under Family Medicine service
- Unit may care for 0-10 Department of Corrections (DOC) patients housed in a secure, locked wing with double-door access
- DOC patients are always accompanied by a corrections officer during care
- Day/Night rotating 12-hour shifts (0700-1930 / 1900-0730)
- Every other weekend and holiday coverage as needed
- Floating required as needed
- Uses Epic EMR system
Requirements
- Active WI or compact RN license required
- BLS certification required (AHA only)
- Minimum 2 years of acute care RN experience within the last 3 years in the specialty
- Epic EMR experience required, ideally within the past 12 months
- Experience starting and maintaining IVs required
- Must pass a telemetry exam with strict passing criteria prior to starting, including 100% identification of lethal rhythms and no more than one incorrect answer on 3rd degree heart block questions
- Skills in IV therapy, phlebotomy, PICC line management, and central line blood draws
- Experience with cardiac monitoring, dysrhythmia interpretation, and management
- Experience with wound care, isolation precautions/PPE, and respiratory care (oxygen administration, nasal cannula)
- Experience managing PCA, insulin, and heparin medications
Additional Information
- Provide direct patient care to med/surg and telemetry patients, including geriatric and DOC populations
- Must reside more than 50 miles from the facility as local candidates are not accepted
- Two attempts allowed to pass telemetry exam; a third attempt requires proof of completing a cardiac interpretation review course
- Assignment may be cancelled if telemetry exam is not passed after three attempts
- First-time travelers will be considered if they have five years of previous inpatient med/surg experience
- Experience with law enforcement or correctional patient populations preferred
- Work in a Magnet-designated, academic teaching hospital environment
