Description

American Traveler is seeking an experienced RN for a Med/Surg Tele position on a 7N Ortho/Uro/Neuro unit at a Level II Trauma facility, working night shifts with every other weekend and holiday rotation.

Details

  • Acute care hospital setting at a Level II Trauma center
  • Med/Surg Telemetry unit specializing in Orthopedic Trauma (fractures, joint replacements), Vascular (fem-pop bypass, carotid endarterectomy, heparin drips, wound dressing changes), Urology (TURP, TURBT, continuous bladder irrigation), Neuro-Spine (laminectomy, fusion, back pain), OB/GYN Oncology (TAH/OBS), and general acute medical admissions
  • 29-bed unit with nurse-to-patient ratios of 1:4-5 on days and 1:5-6 on nights
  • RNs are required to titrate drips following a prescribed nomogram; common drips include heparin, and occasionally nitroglycerin, bivalirudin, Cardizem, and insulin
  • Telemetry techs monitor the unit 24/7; RNs are not required to read their own telemetry strips
  • Respiratory therapy support is on-site; equipment includes CPAP, BiPAP, and High Flow Oxygen Therapy — no ventilators
  • Nursing Assistants are present on the unit; during the 1900–0700 timeframe, RNs carry additional responsibility for vital signs and ADLs
  • Night shift hours are 1900–0730
  • 12-hour shifts
  • Every other weekend required
  • Every other holiday required
  • No call or standby requirement
  • Float required to other adult medical/surgical nursing units
  • Charting system is Cerner (transitioning to Epic)

Requirements

  • Active WI or Compact RN license required by start date
  • Current BLS certification (AHA) required
  • Minimum 1–2 years of acute care nursing experience required
  • 2 professional references required: 1 supervisor reference from within the last 12 months of relevant experience, and 1 peer or supervisor reference from the same specialty within the last 3 years

Additional Information

  • Charge nurses on all shifts carry a patient assignment; a house supervisor is also present on all shifts
  • Scheduling is block-based with no self-scheduling; schedule is dependent on staffing needs
  • Orientation consists of 1 day of computer training followed by 1–2 days of precepted floor orientation
  • Any color scrubs are acceptable; attire must be clean and professional
  • Candidates who have previously worked for this health system must have an end date at least 6 months prior to their consideration date; facility approval is also required
  • Candidates residing within 80 miles of the facility are considered local and may be subject to a reduced travel pay rate
