Description

American Traveler is seeking an experienced RN for a Med/Surg Tele position at a Level 3 Trauma, Certified Chest Pain, and Stroke Center facility in Shelby, NC, requiring at least 18 months of Med/Tele experience and a valid NC or compact RN license.

Details

  • Work in a 32-bed Medical/Surgical unit (4W) within a 241-bed hospital
  • Patient population includes stroke, respiratory illnesses (flu, pneumonia, COVID), renal failure, peritoneal dialysis, and wound care
  • RN-to-patient ratio is 1:5-6, with potential surge ratios of 1:7-8
  • 12-hour night shifts, 1900–0700, 36 hours per week
  • Every other weekend rotation required
  • Travelers are expected to work 75% of assigned holidays
  • Low census call is possible; night shift travelers may be called back up to 3:00 AM
  • Floating required within Region 3 (Cleveland, Kings Mountain, Lincoln, and Central Division including CMC Main, Mercy, and LCH) per regional needs — candidates who are not agreeable to floating should not apply
  • EMR: Epic
  • Virtual nursing program in place (10 cameras); virtual RNs assist with medication witnessing, patient monitoring, and admissions/discharges

Requirements

  • Active NC or compact RN license required
  • Current BLS, ACLS, and NIHSS certifications required
  • Minimum 18 months of Med/Surg Tele RN experience required, with most recent experience within the last year
  • Proficiency in cardiac rhythm interpretation, non-titrating cardiac drips (e.g., Cardizem, Amiodarone), wound care, drain/tube management, PIV starts, and central line management
  • Last 4 digits of SSN and full date of birth required for consideration
  • Minimum 1 professional reference dated within the past year from a Supervisor, Manager, Director, or Charge RN
  • Candidates must have been separated from any Advocate Health Southeast (AHSE) facility for at least 1 year following a permanent position before being eligible

Additional Information

  • First-time travelers are welcome to apply
  • Candidates must reside more than 50 miles from the facility; local candidates are not accepted
  • Unit support includes CNAs (ADLs, mobility, feeding), a charge nurse, phlebotomy, an IV/VAT team, respiratory therapy (24/7), hospitalist (24/7), intensivist (24/7), and telemetry monitoring technicians — no HUC on unit
  • Orientation includes hospital NEO and 2 days of departmental orientation
  • Scheduling is done in 6-week cycles
  • RTO of up to 6 days may be approved, excluding holidays; any missed contracted hours must be made up at the end of the contract
  • Required scrub color: Navy
