Description
American Traveler is hiring a travel RN for a Med/Surg Tele position on a 32-bed surgical unit at a Level 3 Trauma, Certified Chest Pain and Stroke Center facility in Shelby, NC, requiring at least 18 months of Med/Tele experience and a NC or compact RN license.
Details
- 32-bed surgical unit with an average census of 28 patients
- Patient population includes total joint replacements, colon resection, gallbladder, appendectomy, amputations, medical overflow, hip fractures, small bowel obstruction (SBO), and NG tube management
- Night shift, 12-hour shifts (1900–0700), 36 hours per week
- RN-to-patient ratios are 1:5–6 on nights, with potential surge ratios up to 1:8
- CNA support for vitals, baths, mobility, turning, and blood sugars; HUC/receptionist support on unit
- Dedicated phlebotomy team, IV/VAT team, and telemetry monitoring techs available
- Respiratory therapy, hospitalist, and intensivist coverage available 24/7
- EMR: Epic (experience required); IV pumps: Alaris; medication dispensing: Omnicell; monitors: Philips
- Every other weekend rotation required
- Low census call possible; night shift nurses may be called back up to 3:00 AM
- Floating required within Region 3 (Cleveland, Kings Mountain, Lincoln, and Central Division facilities) per regional needs and scope of practice — candidates unwilling to float should not apply
- Schedule is posted in 6-week cycles
Requirements
- Active NC or compact RN license required
- Current BLS, ACLS, and NIHSS certifications required
- Minimum 18 months of Med/Surg Tele RN experience required, with most recent experience within the last year
- Proficiency in cardiac rhythm interpretation, non-titrating cardiac drips (e.g., Cardizem, Amiodarone), wound care, drain/tube management, PIV starts, and central line management
- Epic EMR experience required
- One professional reference dated within the past year, from a Supervisor, Manager, Director, or Charge RN, required for consideration
- Last 4 digits of SSN and full date of birth required for consideration
Additional Information
- First-time travelers are welcome to apply
- Candidates must live more than 50 miles from the facility to be eligible — local candidates are not accepted
- Former permanent employees of any AHSE facility must have been separated for at least 1 year before being eligible
- Travelers are expected to work 75% of assigned holidays
- Up to 6 days of RTO may be approved, excluding holidays; contracted hours must be met
- Orientation includes NEO plus 2 days of departmental training
