Description
American Traveler is seeking an experienced RN for a Med/Surg Tele position at a Level 3 Trauma, Certified Chest Pain and Stroke Center hospital in Shelby, NC, requiring at least 18 months of Med/Tele experience and Epic proficiency.
Details
- Fast-paced Clinical Decision unit with 24 beds and an average daily census of 24
- Patient population includes various diagnoses across cardiac, respiratory, neurological, and general medical/surgical observation cases
- RN-to-patient ratio of 1:5-6 on both day and night shifts, with potential surge ratios of up to 1:7-8
- CNA support available at a 1:12 ratio; no HUC on unit
- Charge nurse is always available as a resource and may carry a patient assignment
- Additional support includes phlebotomy, IV/VAT team, RT (24/7), on-site hospitalist (days) with virtual coverage evenings and overnight, intensivist (24/7), and remote telemetry monitoring with a tele tech
- EMR: Epic (minimum 6 months of experience required)
- IV pumps: Alaris; medication dispensing: Omnicell; bedside monitors: Masimo in all rooms
- 12-hour night shift, 1900–0700, 36 hours per week
- Every-other-weekend rotation required
- Low census call is possible; night shift travelers may be called back up to 3:00 AM
- Floating required within Region 3 (Cleveland, Kings Mountain, Lincoln, and Central Division including CMC Main, Mercy, and LCH) per regional needs — candidates who are not willing to float to all listed facilities should not apply
- Travelers are expected to work 75% of assigned holidays
- Scheduling runs on a 6-week cycle
Requirements
- Active NC RN license or a compact RN license currently in hand
- Current certifications: BLS, ACLS, and NIH Stroke Scale (NIHSS)
- Minimum 18 months of Med/Surg Tele RN experience, with most recent experience within the last year
- Epic EMR experience required (minimum 6 months; amount of experience should be noted in your profile)
- Proficiency in cardiac rhythm interpretation and experience with non-titrating cardiac drips (e.g., Cardizem, Amiodarone)
- General Med/Surg skills required, including care of patients with tubes/drains, IV insertion, blood product administration, and wound care/dressing changes
- Must reside more than 50 miles from the facility to be eligible for this position
- Last 4 digits of SSN and full date of birth required for consideration
- Minimum 1 professional reference dated within the past year from a Supervisor, Manager, Director, or Charge RN

- Candidates who have worked a permanent position at any AHSE facility must be separated for at least 1 year before being eligible
- Orientation includes facility-level NEO and 2 days of departmental orientation
- Navy scrubs are required

- Up to 6 days of RTO may be approved, excluding holidays; if contracted hours cannot be met, time must be added to the end of the contract
