Description
American Traveler is seeking an experienced RN for a Med/Surg Tele position at a Level 3 Trauma, Certified Chest Pain and Stroke Center hospital in Shelby, NC, requiring at least 18 months of Med/Tele experience and a valid NC or compact RN license.
Details
- Work in a 32-bed Medical/Surgical unit (4W) at a 241-bed, Level 3 Trauma, Certified Chest Pain Center and Stroke Center hospital
- Patient population includes stroke, respiratory illnesses (flu, pneumonia, COVID), renal failure, peritoneal dialysis, and wound care cases
- Standard RN patient ratio is 1:5-6, with surge ratios up to 1:7-8
- 12-hour night shifts, 1900–0700, 36 hours per week
- Weekend rotation every other weekend
- Low census call is possible; night shift travelers may be called back up to 3:00 AM
- Travelers are expected to work 75% of assigned holidays
- Schedules are set on a 6-week cycle
- Floating is required within Region 3 (Cleveland, Kings Mountain, Lincoln, and the Central Division including CMC Main, Mercy, and LCH) — candidates who are not agreeable to this floating requirement should not apply
- EMR: Epic
- Unit utilizes virtual nursing (VNO) technology with 10 cameras — virtual RNs can serve as a second witness for certain medications, monitor high-acuity patients, and assist with admissions and discharges
Requirements
- Active NC or compact RN license required
- Current BLS, ACLS, and NIHSS certifications required
- Minimum 18 months of Med/Surg Tele RN experience required, with most recent experience within the last year
- Proficiency in cardiac rhythm interpretation required
- Experience with non-titrating cardiac drips (e.g., Cardizem, Amiodarone) required
- Skills in wound care, drain/tube management, PIV starts, and central line management required
- Last 4 digits of SSN and full date of birth required for consideration
- Minimum of 1 professional reference dated within the past year, from a Supervisor, Manager, Director, or Charge RN, required for consideration
- Candidate's permanent address must be more than 50 miles from the facility — local candidates are not accepted
Additional Information
- Department support includes CNAs (ADLs, mobility, feeding), a charge nurse, phlebotomy, an IV/VAT team, respiratory therapy (24/7), hospitalists (24/7), and intensivists (24/7) — no HUC on unit
- Telemetry monitoring technicians are available on the unit
- Orientation includes NEO plus 2 days of departmental orientation
- RTO of up to 6 days may be approved, excluding holidays; any unmet contracted hours must be made up by extending the contract
- A clinical interview with the unit manager is required
- Scrub color: navy; free parking is available on-site
- First-time travelers are welcome to apply
