Description
American Traveler is seeking an experienced RN for a Med/Surg Telemetry position at a Level 3 Trauma, Certified Chest Pain and Stroke Center hospital in Shelby, NC, requiring at least 18 months of Med/Tele experience and an active NC or compact RN license.
Details
- 32-bed surgical unit with an average census of 28 patients
- Patient population includes total joint replacements, colon resections, cholecystectomies, appendectomies, amputations, hip fractures, small bowel obstructions (SBO), and medical overflow
- Night shift (1900–0700), 36 hours per week
- Patient ratios: 1:5–6 on nights, with potential surge ratios of up to 1:7–8
- EMR: Epic (experience required)
- IV pumps: Alaris; medication dispensing: Omnicell; monitors: Philips
- Telemetry monitoring tech on unit
- Every other weekend rotation required
- Floating required within Region 3 facilities (Cleveland, Kings Mountain, Lincoln, and Central Division including CMC Main, Mercy, and LCH) per regional needs — candidates who are not agreeable to this should not apply
- Low census call possible; night shift staff may be called back up to 3:00 AM
Requirements
- Active NC or compact RN license required
- Current BLS, ACLS, and NIHSS certifications required
- Minimum 18 months of Med/Surg Telemetry RN experience required, with most recent experience within the last year
- Proficiency in cardiac rhythm interpretation, non-titrating cardiac drips (e.g., Cardizem, Amiodarone), wound care, drain/tube management, PIV starts, and central line management
- Candidates must reside more than 50 miles from the facility — local candidates are not accepted
- Last 4 digits of SSN and full date of birth required for consideration
- Minimum of 1 professional reference dated within the past year, from a Supervisor, Manager, Director, or Charge RN

- First-time travelers are welcome to apply
- Candidates who have worked a permanent position at any AHSE facility must be separated for at least 1 year before being considered
- Support staff includes CNAs, a Receptionist/HUC, charge nurse, phlebotomy team, IV/VAT team, Respiratory Therapy (24/7), Hospitalist (24/7), and Intensivist (24/7)
- Orientation includes facility NEO plus 2 days of departmental orientation
- Travelers are expected to work 75% of assigned holidays
- Up to 6 days of RTO may be approved, excluding holidays
- Schedule is set on a 6-week cycle
