Description

American Traveler is seeking an experienced RN for a Med/Surg Telemetry position at a Level 3 Trauma, Certified Chest Pain and Stroke Center hospital in Shelby, NC, requiring at least 18 months of Med/Tele experience and an active NC or compact RN license.

Details

  • 32-bed surgical unit with an average census of 28 patients
  • Patient population includes total joint replacements, colon resections, cholecystectomies, appendectomies, amputations, hip fractures, small bowel obstructions (SBO), and medical overflow
  • Night shift (1900–0700), 36 hours per week
  • Patient ratios: 1:5–6 on nights, with potential surge ratios of up to 1:7–8
  • EMR: Epic (experience required)
  • IV pumps: Alaris; medication dispensing: Omnicell; monitors: Philips
  • Telemetry monitoring tech on unit
  • Every other weekend rotation required
  • Floating required within Region 3 facilities (Cleveland, Kings Mountain, Lincoln, and Central Division including CMC Main, Mercy, and LCH) per regional needs — candidates who are not agreeable to this should not apply
  • Low census call possible; night shift staff may be called back up to 3:00 AM

Requirements

  • Active NC or compact RN license required
  • Current BLS, ACLS, and NIHSS certifications required
  • Minimum 18 months of Med/Surg Telemetry RN experience required, with most recent experience within the last year
  • Proficiency in cardiac rhythm interpretation, non-titrating cardiac drips (e.g., Cardizem, Amiodarone), wound care, drain/tube management, PIV starts, and central line management
  • Candidates must reside more than 50 miles from the facility — local candidates are not accepted
  • Last 4 digits of SSN and full date of birth required for consideration
  • Minimum of 1 professional reference dated within the past year, from a Supervisor, Manager, Director, or Charge RN

  • First-time travelers are welcome to apply
  • Candidates who have worked a permanent position at any AHSE facility must be separated for at least 1 year before being considered
  • Support staff includes CNAs, a Receptionist/HUC, charge nurse, phlebotomy team, IV/VAT team, Respiratory Therapy (24/7), Hospitalist (24/7), and Intensivist (24/7)
  • Orientation includes facility NEO plus 2 days of departmental orientation
  • Travelers are expected to work 75% of assigned holidays
  • Up to 6 days of RTO may be approved, excluding holidays
  • Schedule is set on a 6-week cycle
  • Scrub color: Navy
