Description
American Traveler is seeking an experienced RN for a Med/Surg Tele position at a Level 3 Trauma, Certified Chest Pain and Stroke Center hospital in North Carolina, requiring at least 18 months of Med/Tele experience.

- 4W Medical/Surgical unit in a 241-bed, Level 3 Trauma, Certified Chest Pain and Stroke Center hospital
- 32-bed unit with an average daily census of 32 patients
- Patient population includes stroke, respiratory illnesses (Flu/Pneumonia/COVID), renal failure, peritoneal dialysis, and wound care
- RN-to-patient ratio is 1:5-6, with surge ratios up to 1:7-8
- 12-hour night shifts, 1900–0700, 36 hours per week
- Every-other-weekend rotation required
- Floating required within Region 3 (Cleveland, Kings Mountain, Lincoln, and Central Division including CMC Main, Mercy, and LCH) per regional needs — candidates who are not agreeable to floating should not apply
- Low census call is possible; night shift travelers may be called back up to 3:00 AM
- Schedule is set on a 6-week cycle
- EMR: Epic
- Unit utilizes virtual nursing (VNO) with 10 cameras — virtual RNs can serve as a second witness for certain medications, monitor high-acuity patients, and assist with admissions and discharges
Requirements
- Active NC RN license or a compact RN license currently in hand
- Current BLS, ACLS, and NIHSS certifications required
- Minimum 18 months of Med/Surg Tele RN experience required, with most recent experience within the last year
- Proficiency in cardiac rhythm interpretation, management of non-titrating cardiac drips (e.g., Cardizem, Amiodarone), wound care, drain/tube management, PIV starts, and central line management
- Candidate's permanent address must be located more than 50 miles from the facility — local candidates are not accepted
- Last 4 digits of SSN and full date of birth required for consideration
- Minimum of 1 professional reference dated within the past year, from a Supervisor, Manager, Director, or Charge RN
Additional Information
- Department support includes CNAs (ADLs, mobility, feeding), a charge nurse, phlebotomy, IV/VAT team, respiratory therapy (24/7), hospitalist (24/7), intensivist (24/7), and telemetry monitoring technicians
- No Health Unit Coordinator (HUC) on the unit
- Orientation includes NEO plus 2 days of departmental orientation
- Travelers are expected to work 75% of assigned holidays
- Up to 6 days of RTO may be approved, excluding holidays
- Navy scrubs are required

- A clinical interview with the manager is required as part of the hiring process
- Candidates who have worked a permanent position at any AHSE facility must have been separated for at least 1 year before being eligible
