Description

American Traveler is hiring a Med/Surg Tele RN for a night shift assignment requiring 2 years of experience and an active IL RN license.

Details

• Work on a 48-bed Med/Surg/Tele unit including one negative pressure room and one designated hospice room
• Unit provides telemetry monitoring for up to 10 patients with stable dysrhythmias
• Patient population includes adults and geriatrics with conditions such as CVA, hypertension, diabetes, renal disease, COPD, cellulitis, and pneumonia
• Surgical population includes orthopedic, genitourinary, gastrointestinal, and general surgical patients, excluding major neurosurgical and cardiovascular cases
• Typical patient ratio of 1:5-6
• Night shift schedule, 3x12-hour shifts (7:00 PM-7:00 AM)
• Weekend coverage required every 3rd weekend
• Floating required to 2 other Med Surg units
• Uses Pyxis medication system and SBAR communication method
• Meditech charting system experience preferred

Requirements

• Active IL RN license required
• Current BLS certification required; ACLS preferred
• Minimum 2 years of experience required
• Previous charge experience preferred
• Experience with IV therapy, phlebotomy, and PICC line management
• Skilled in blood product administration and peripheral line care
• Experience with colostomy/ileostomy and feeding tube care and management
• Knowledge of insulin and heparin administration, including IV insulin protocols
• Experience interpreting and managing dysrhythmias and telemetry monitoring
• Experience with chest tube management (Emerson/Pleur-Evac) and oxygen administration, including nasal cannula and BiPAP/CPAP preferred
• Experience with pre/post hemodialysis management and renal failure care
• Experience with pre/post neurosurgery care and peripheral nerve block catheters
• Experience with total joint replacement and surgical drain care

Additional Information

• Provide direct nursing care to a diverse Med/Surg/Tele patient population, including chronic and acute medical and surgical cases
• Utilize safe patient handling equipment and bladder scanners as part of daily care
• Participate in rapid response/code team activations as needed
• Navy blue scrubs required
• First-time travelers are welcome to apply
