Description

American Traveler is hiring a Telemetry RN for a 13-week night shift assignment requiring an active AZ or compact RN license and at least 1 year of MedSurg experience.

Details

• Acute care Medical Surgical Telemetry/PCU unit with 30 beds across three 10-bed units
• Patient ratios of 1:5-6
• Cares for surgical patients (total hip/knee replacement, small bowel resection, hysterectomy, exploratory lap) and medical patients (MRSA, C-diff, suicide attempt, drug/alcohol withdrawal, COPD, pneumonia, COVID)
• Telemetry patients presenting with chest pain
• Cares for stable CPAP or BiPAP patients
• Remote Monitor Techs support the unit but RNs must read their own telemetry strips
• Uses Cerner EMR
• Nursing assistants typically care for 10-15 patients; RNs provide primary care with 3 patients when no NA is available
• 12-hour night shifts, 1900-0730
• Every other weekend required (Friday and Saturday for nights)
• Holiday coverage on a rotating basis to distribute holidays fairly
• May be included in low census standby rotation depending on contract
• Float requirements include the Multi Care Unit, Pediatric unit for adult MST patients, and West Campus MedSurg Tele

Requirements

• Active AZ state or compact RN license required
• BLS and ACLS certification required
• Minimum 1 year of MedSurg experience required; telemetry experience preferred
• Must be able to read and interpret telemetry strips
• Must pass a dysrhythmia exam within two attempts prior to signing contract
• Must be willing to precept nursing students
• Two professional references required: one supervisor from within the last 12 months worked and one peer or supervisor from within the last 3 years worked, including dates of employment and rehire eligibility
• Copy of driver's license required for consideration

Additional Information

• Provide direct patient care on a combined MedSurg Telemetry/PCU unit, including precepting nursing students as needed
• Charge RN oversees 50 inpatient beds spanning MST, Pediatrics, and the Acuity Adaptable MCU (ICU/PCU/MST admissions)
• Any scrub color accepted except camouflage
• Unit orientation provided based on experience level following hospital orientation
• Must pass a Pass/Fail sterile technique test for Foley catheter insertion and central line dressing changes on the first day of orientation
• Candidates must reside at least 50 miles from the facility
• Candidates may not have been directly employed (full time, part time, or PRN) with any CommonSpirit, CHI, or Dignity facility within the past year
