Description

American Traveler is seeking an experienced RN for a 13-week night shift travel contract on a Cardiac/Telemetry Stepdown unit, requiring drip titration skills and an active WV or compact RN license.

Details

  • Acute care hospital setting at a Level 2 Trauma facility
  • Unit 7N is a 29-bed Cardiac/Telemetry Stepdown (Cardiopulmonary) unit
  • Patient population includes cardiac patients, CR bands, post-cath, AMI, post-op lung surgeries (out of CCU), respiratory failure, chest tubes, pacemakers, and post-PCI patients; sheaths are not pulled and no arterial lines on this unit
  • Nurse-to-patient ratio of 1:5-6
  • CNA support available, ideally 1 CNA per 12 patients (typically 2 CNAs on nights)
  • Charge nurse available 24/7; on nights, charge nurse takes a patient assignment
  • Occasional cardiac drips with titration including Cardizem, Amiodarone, Dobutamine, Dopamine, Integrelin, Heparin, Ativan, Lasix, and Nitro (up to 50 mcg)
  • CPAP and BiPap present on unit; managed by Respiratory Therapy
  • Philips telemetry monitors in use; RNs must independently read and interpret telemetry strips
  • EMR: Epic
  • 12-hour night shifts (7p–7a)
  • Every-other-weekend requirement (Saturday and Sunday)

Requirements

  • Active WV or compact RN license required
  • Minimum 2 years of RN experience required
  • Required certifications: BLS and ACLS
  • Must be proficient in titrating drips
  • Telemetry strip reading and interpretation required
  • BSN not required

Additional Information

  • Royal blue scrubs required
  • No artificial nails permitted
  • Holiday rotation shared with permanent staff
  • Floating may be required to other Med/Surg Tele units
  • EKG testing is required for this Stepdown unit (pass/fail)
  • Profile must include a skills checklist completed within the past year, copies of certifications, and a driver's license
  • Two references required: one supervisor reference and one peer or additional supervisor reference (e.g., charge RN); if the candidate held a permanent position within the last 12 months, one supervisor reference must be from that facility
  • Candidates must reside more than 50 miles from this WVU facility to be eligible
  • Candidates who have previously worked at any WVU Medicine location must have taken a 2-year break before being considered
  • Travelers are not eligible if they have already reached a cumulative 1 year of work within the WVU system without a subsequent 2-year break
