Description

American Traveler is seeking an experienced RN for a Med/Surg Telemetry position on a 4N ENT/Palliative Care unit, requiring intermediate care background and proficiency with drip titration on 12-hour night shifts.

Details

  • Acute care hospital setting, Level II Trauma Center
  • 29-bed PCU/Med-Surg unit specializing in ENT/Palliative care
  • Patient population includes abdominal surgeries, ear/nose/throat surgeries, complex wounds, and general medical cases
  • Nurse-to-patient ratio of 1:4 on days and 1:6 on nights; nurse aide support available
  • Telemetry monitoring is supported by monitor techs who track rhythms and alert the RN — RNs are not required to independently read telemetry strips
  • RNs are required to titrate drips including heparin and, less frequently, insulin, diltiazem, amiodarone, and nitroglycerin
  • Respiratory equipment in use includes CPAP, BiPAP, Vapotherm, and occasional tracheostomy care; no ventilators
  • 12-hour night shifts; every other weekend (EOW) and every other holiday (EOH) required
  • No on-call or standby requirements
  • Floating to other Med/Surg units may be required on a rotation basis when the unit is overstaffed
  • Charting system is Cerner, with a transition to Epic underway

Requirements

  • Active WI or Compact RN license required by start date
  • BLS certification (AHA) required; ACLS preferred
  • Minimum 1 year of RN experience required
  • Intermediate care or PCU background required
  • Proficiency with IVs, drains, ostomies, wound vacs, NG tubes, and Foley catheters required
  • Experience with electronic health records (EHR) required
  • 2 professional references required for consideration: 1 supervisor reference from within the last 12 months of relevant experience, and 1 peer or supervisor reference from within the last 3 years of relevant experience

Additional Information

  • Orientation consists of 12 hours of computer training followed by 12 hours of shadowing
  • Charge nurses carry a reduced assignment; travelers are not expected to serve in the charge role
  • Block scheduling is not guaranteed but is prioritized whenever possible, especially for night shifts
  • Scrubs of any color are acceptable
  • Candidates who previously worked at this facility as permanent staff must have an end date at least 6 months prior to their consideration date, and hospital approval is required
  • Candidates residing within 80 miles of the facility are considered local, which may affect the travel pay rate offered
